I always heard it as the Mob couldn't get Robinson or Lamotta, which is why they kept fighting each other. Its just that he was so good that it was rediculous for him to not have a title shot.

Platinum, nobody can say that with certainty, on my travels Ive heard storys, its pretty certain Lamotta did. The problem is Boxing in the 40s the big money was in Betting and the mob ran it. Bad verdicts arent something new if you saw some of the old judges scorecards youd scratch your head in disbeleif. Bob Arum was in the team as a lawyer who cleaned it up, then became a Promoter, he must have thought this is easy money Ill have some of it. I remember an old Boxing writer telling me years ago, son if you go pro go with a crook not a cunt the crook will earn you money.

On the basis that he was the greatest Welterweight of all time and quite possibly the greatest Middleweight of all time too.

It takes some fighter to be considered a GREAT in 2 weight divisions.

Ive seen tapes of the man too i liked his style.

    SRR was some fighter.

La Motta,Gavilan were 2 great fighters he beat.

He also beat Armstrong but i wouldnt say that was a prime Armstrong.

How do you think Robinson woud of faired against any Welterweight in history?

Do you reckon he beats them all?

A lot of good judges made him loose the first Gavilan fight, but he won the second. To me La Motta was never a great fighter good yes but no great yes he beat Robinson once and had him down for 9 other than that no other great results. But he was part of the media circus of that time. Good luck to him he made a good living out of it up to the present day. In the 50s I beleived SRR was the greatest, thats what my peirs told me, plus I hadnt a clue what shaped my beleives. Then I became involved and through the years having the good fortune to work and rub shoulders with some incredible people, who put a different slant on things, people who were there in the thick of it. Telling a slitely different story about history of the time I first listened then went looking and on the way got a few shocks it happens to us all. One thing that I couldnt get out of my head before all this was, how could the greatest fighter of all time not work when made to move to his right ?. I beleive at welter Hearns Leonard Burley all beat him
