Pac is not one of those guys like Floyd that comes from a boxing family and backgroung and was known before ever stepping in the ring.

He didn't win a gold medal and he didn't have a great promotional team early on in his career so for him to be as big as he is, he had to have done some great things. He was certainly not handed his status on a silver platter. This guy is a warrior and wether people accept him as #1 or not, he definitely deserves that honor as much as anyone.
Ring Magazine's "Fighter of the Year" is their subjective opinion and they give good reason why they chose Manny P. as their P4P fighter. Anyone is free to have his own P4P and we all must respect each other's opinion. The difference between us boxing fans and the people behind Ring Magazine is while we are weekend warriors and "would be" journalists/commentators, they do it for a living.

Pacman is high in my list and the argument presented by the magazine writers and editors is sound. Now if you were to ask my opinion, I do not think anyone for now deserves the P4P title. I am a big fan of Pacman, but I think he still has to beat Marquez, Guzman and Valero to claim that title and silence his critics. For Mayweather, he still has to pass through OLDH and Hopkins to prove by any reasonable doubt that he deserves the P4P title.

This thread alone proves my point. When one camp cannot out convince the other, then probably no one deserves it. However, as fighter of the year, I may have to agree with Ring Magazine. Two victories against EM, a knockout win vs. Oscar Larios (a former world champion) and the excitement factor may give him the edge versus others who may lay claim to the title.
