Ali's jab is one of the greatest punches in the history of the sport. The thing about Ali is that his larger than life image sometimes overshadows his incredible physical gifts. The man was a beautiful athlete.

All definiately up there. Imagine if Leonard never came across that eye injury as pacfan stated. Considering he was already one of the finest P4P fighters OF ALL TIME imo.....without long lay off's who knows what he would of achieved.
Yup, not only the layoffs but also the mental baggage he carried after coming off such a serious condition - detached retina - which simply means his eyeball could've come out of the socket anytime if it weren't corrected. How can he ever come forward fighting after coming off such a shock? He hardly did but still managed to 'box' Hagler beautifully. If he weren't bothered with that, I think he would've come more forward and could've KO'd him - at least he would have had the means to do so, IMO, with more experience and in his prime. What a damn good boxer he could've been?! Tsk, tsk!Originally Posted by cockey cockney

No offence, but that made me laugh out loud... Until I realized you weren't joking. I don't think any natural middleweight in history would have KOed Hagler.. And to say SRL would have evver had any chance is really really a ridiculous statement imo. If he had ever tried to KO Hagler at any point in his career it only would have lead to him taking more punishment.. He had to fight Marvin the way he did, he couldn't take good shots from him, and he had no ability to hurt Hagler. Have you even seen the fight? I kind of doubt it.Originally Posted by pacfan

Of course I'm not offended, I welcome 'em, what are we here for? Yes I've seen it just when it happened, of course on the tube. Recently I downloaded 2 versions of the fight from one of the peer-to-peer sharing network and surprisingly it was both Japanese version of the the fight. Guest commentator of the fight was I think former champion Yoshiaki Numata. He said Leonard was clearly ahead and before the last round he said Hagler clearly needed to knock Leonard out to win. How did I know? 'cuz actually, I'm half-Japanese and I was born there and Japanese is my first language. Anyway, going back to the fight, who are we to argue with the ex-champ right, they know more than either me or you.Originally Posted by p4pking
I won't argue much on something I can't prove, but all I can say is I know a lot more about punching than most people here and can punch better than most boxer, although you won't believe me. Anyway, as I see it, Leonard's punches has all the important ingredients of a perfect punch - stiffness, the snap, speed, and the leverage, that is, his punches are well anchored on his body. It's only that sometimes boxers don't unleash all they've got because their tentativeness. Watch how he unleashes all he's got on the much bigger Lalonde and I hope you'll know what I mean. Of course you might say he's a nobody of a fighter, but that's besides the point. Anyway, CC to you both, just keep arguing, it's no problem with me.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING

That's more like it. He had almost everything, and it's coming from a guy who used to shout on the tube 'cmon, smack the clown on the face, smack him hard!' Believe me, I never liked the guy but always had to reluctantly concede 'he's damn good!'Originally Posted by Danny_G

1. without a doubt roy jones jr
2. meldrick taylor
3. muhamed ali as a young heavyweight
4. mike tyson BEST COMBINATION OF SPEED AND POWER EVER
fastest combinations, Ray Leonard and Meldrick Taylor
fastest straight shots, Ali, Mayweather, Judah and Thomas Hearns
fastest hooks, Tyson and Roy Jones Jr
fastest hand speed over all....I'd have to say Roy Jones Jr because of his jab when he used it he had one of the quickest and most accurate jabs when he used it and all around Roy had a better all around hand speed department.
The rest of them were just either good at one thing or the other.
Ok I can't pass this up![]()
