I strongly disagree. Young Tyson was in a league of his own. Anyways I think that guys like Calzaghe have been over hyped by one or two fights like he was against Lacy. I think that guys like Hamed, and Hatton were overhyped along with guys like Michael Grant, Audley Harrison, Jermain Taylor? Nah I like Jermain, um Vargas was overhyped IMO, So was Sharmba Mitchell.
Read my post i said champions not contenders !!!!!!!!!!!! Mike Grant was not a champ !!!!

    Don Curry...

Seriously, at his "peak" he was flying high in the P4P ratings and was even touted as the man to move up and topple Middleweight King Marvelous Marv'!

Don Curry, in the ring with Hagler?!

Thats almost as bad as "Tito will one day move up and fight Roy Jones"

You must not like many boxers from the past eras as most boxers fought whomever and whenever.....

I've made this debate before with MANY people and I always say the same way fighters loose early in their careers like Hopkins, Arguello the Marquez brothers JCC could have also lost that same way but he didn't....

I wont debate the quality of his opponents cause the facts are there but I will debate you smashing him like hes the only fighter in history to have build up a career this way especially in the time he fought....

I've said it before thats fine take away 35 fights (as most people that I've debated with somehow have determined thats the amount of 'bums' he faced) and his record still stands at 73-6-2 better then almost any fighter from his time with some great names on his resume. For the sake of your argument I'll leave his loses to Wise & Wiley on his record (eventhough they fall under your 'bum' category.

So now that we cut his career down and took off those 35 wins, his career is still there. It's funny though cause if you take many fighters records from the past eras you can easily point out fighters had 20-30 fights against what your calling 'bums'..... Don't belive me check the records; Duran, Arguello, Olivares, Jorge F. Castro, Jose L. Ramirez..... But these fighters also have great names Pernell, SRL, RJJ to name a few....

When you come out and label him as the 'Bum beater you pretty much, drag a S*** load of other names with his' (if you would measure them with the same stick)

The title of this thread isn't 'Name as many overrated champs as you can think of.'
It's 'Most overrated boxing champ ever.'
Chavez takes the cake amigo, like it or not.
    sorry
Great debate and loved the way you backed it up.

No way Chavez was more overrated than Wonjongkam.

The fact that he even stepped in the ring with ODLH, Meldrick Taylor, Sweet Pea, Hector Camacho etc.
puts him miles ahead on Pongsaklek.
    Spot on killersheep.

Thats cool, BoomBoom I was only debating the fact that he called JCC 'the bum beater' I wasn't even on Samson3000 about the overrated thing....

You shut your filthy mouth! Mayorga was not overrated. He was never lost his welterweight championship, he was robbed against Spinks, then went to 154 where he didn't belong and then 160 to go to war with Tito, where he sure as hell didn't belong. He is not overated, no one thought he was a great boxer, but he was a savage at 147 who grew stronger as the fight went on.

Wonjongkam IS over-rated, 18 title defenses against no-names, he literally defended his strap against a guy name Trash.
I say he's overrated because he is rated #9 on boxrec's lb for lb, #1 on boxrec's flyweight, #1 on The Ring's Flyweight, #2 Flyweight by fightnews and #1 Flyweight by ESPN. All of he which he has done nothing but beat C,D and F class fighters, you can say yes he is untested to me that is the mark of overrated, a huge title reign over nothing but bums.

Rahman at least beat Lewis, Briggs beat Lyakhovich and Mercer and Calzaghe beat Lacy.
Beyer and Ottke I can definately agree with.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I could see how you would think the Klitschko's are overatted, Wladimir with a horrible record of 48-3 with 43ko's and Vitali 35-2 with 34ko's and his only 2 loses were a result of injury each time ahead on the cards.Come on.
