He's made this claim before, right after the fight, and recanted.
But in this particular instance,Id keep in mind, the root source of this story is the New York Post, not exactly a pillar of journalism

So the big question for George is why the fuck would his trainer want to drug him??

Maybe it was one of them drugs you can only detect 30 years later.Originally Posted by Smashup

He propbably put in to the book his original claim from immediatly after the fight, and they just took it completely out of its context
Not necessarily. Byrd is not allowed to speak ill of the W. Klitschko incident, but he can still talk about it. Talking about something in a good light will not generate a lawsuit. Talking ill about something that could damage a person's reputation can.Originally Posted by amat

since foreman is the heavyweight champ--shouldnt he have chosen where the fight should take place..not ALI. different setting could have changed the fight so he should say he made a mistake about fighting in zaire
Well, somebody must have put something in big George's happy snacks because he has finally lost it!
If you watch that fight closely he was simply outsmarted by Ali and he looked focused and ready to go when he entered the ring, so who knows what big George is talking about.
Why say this 33 years later is the real mystery here.
Ali may have Parkinson's but big George might have Alzheimer's!!!!!
I think that Big George is about as straight and honest as a person can get. I believe that he believes that it happened. MAYBE it did..who is to say? One of the few people who would know/suspect something is George Foreman.
Foreman would definitely not lie about it if he thought it was true. Maybe his memory is mistake. But Ali WAS a member of the nation of Islam at the time and you know they didn't want to take a chance on him losing.
But I agree it seems in bad tastes for Foreman to say that, even if he believes it...there is NO point in saying it now. It can only detract from either man's legend.
