FYI it's Somebody Up There Likes Me.....not loves me

Diggstown is probably the worst out of all of those movies
WTF are you talkin bout Lyle? Diggstown was great! The only part that dragged it down was when they killed that black kid's brother, fukin Bruce Dern. Which reminds me, it isn't a boxing movie, but if you wanna watch a great movie with Bruce Dern check out "The Burbs", Tom Hanks is also in it. It's a damn good movie...think I'm gonna have to rent it or buy it now that I'm thinkin bout it...

....I own it, The 'Burbs is a great movie

Rick Ducommun is awesome in that movie....he plays Art the neighbor who gives Tom Hanks all the ideas about the Klopeks being evil.

HAHA, of all the movies mentioned on this thread. This is by far my favorite movie. Not sure if I would categorize it as a boxing movie, but it did have several fights.

No that you mentioned it... does Fight Club qualify. LOL

CC Lyle. For that statement you have regained some of my respect. Still, you are wrong about Diggstown, its a bad ass movie.

Has anyone seen the documentary on Emile Griffith, Ring of Fire:The Emile Griffith Story? I was looking on youtube and found a little snip-it of the Paret fight. That was insane.... the amount of punishment, and the way he just slumps to the ground. This might have been the biggest blow to boxing on broadcast TV. They didnt show fights on broadcast TV until the 70's. If anyone has seen this documentary, do you recommend it? Emile Griffith is a 5 time champion and was great up until that fight, after that fight he was never the same and seemed to ease up on his opponents for fear he would permanantly damage another fighter. The animosity between Paret and Griffith began when Paret called him a "maricon" at the weigh in. Maybe a clear headed Griffith eases up on him in the 12th, who knows....

How about Boxing movies that sucked balls.

    1) ALI

    As for my favorites,
Raging Bull is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's Scorsese, who's by far one of the best directors in the history of cinema.

... I didn't like the ending though. Most Martin movies always end in........... "what the f@ck?" "huh?" "That's all that happened?" after a brilliant array of experiences and visual and intellectual entertainment.... it always ended in...... "is that it?" then the credits roll up.

    Damn I love that guy!

Play it to the Bone is underrated too.

I good one I saw a few years back was "Triumph of the Spirit", a fact based movie featuring Willem Dafoe as an Olympic boxer in the '40s who ends up in a Nazi concentration camp. He survives by participating in boxing matches staged for the gambling and entertainment of the Nazi officers. A serious movie with gritty depictions of conditions in the Nazi camps.
