The real problem I see for Tito is not the weight or that he is fighting RJJ, it is the inactivity. At least Roy has been keeping busy but Tito has not fought in over 2 years. This could be a serious factor. Tito should have enough power to gain Roy's respect. His three wins at 160 came by knockout. One to a man who had never been KOed before, one to a man who had never been down before and one to a man who has fought as a supermiddleweight.

I really think Jones is more washed up at this point. If Tito comes out with even a shread of his former offensive brilliance, he can take RJJ out. But if he comes in ring rusty as hell and slow he will get beat bad.

Though I don't think this fight is a good idea, I have a feeling that if both of these guys come out looking good with shades of their former glory, then we will all have a good fight and the winner will be back in business big time. Now if either of these guys comes out looking like a corpse then we all lose and it will be a bad night for boxing. I prey for the former.

When I first heard rumors of this fight I was thinking WTF is Tito doing, and I was actually hoping he would stay retired. Now that the contract is signed I can't wait I'm sure over time most people that are against this fight will be brought in by the allure of these great fighters.

I see jones winning but i will never be able to pick him in a fight with confidence......tito's last loss was a style mismatch at least im my opinion so i don't totally count him out, i love both of these guys so hopefully this turn into a great fight somehow.

Chad Dawson doesn't have power...I like the guy but he's a BOXER and you never know what RJJ could do with him.


IMO there are 4 fights Roy should have before calling it quits....

1. RJJ - Hopkins II: should have happened years ago and it would be interesting to see how the years have changed these guys.

2. RJJ - James Toney II: This would be a heavyweight fight and honestly I would watch every second of it, it doesn't matter if James Toney has been juicing while he's at the buffet it would be a great fight!

3. RJJ - Joe Calzaghe: should have happened years ago and everyone would still watch it.....long as it's on regular HBO

4. RJJ - Jermain Taylor/Kelly Pavlik (winner): an odd fight but a really good match up either way

I'm not sure Tito will have enough one-punch power at 170-175 to beat Jones. I don't blame Jones for not fighting Glen Johnson again. I think Glen Johnson would knock his ass out again. At some point, Jones can't help himself. He forgets that he's not 28 anymore and he unorthodox style gets him hit. It might survive it from Tito, but he won't against a real LTW who can punch. God help Jones if he gets in the ring with Pavlik or Taylor. I would love to see that happen.

I have mixed feelings with this fight. One part of me is screaming for watching Tito again hoping to feel all those emotions we had in Puerto Rico some time ago, but the other side of me is telling Tito to stay retired. Actually I was hoping he stayed retired, but now that he is back I will have my cold beers on hand and watch the fight in first row.

The problem I see is the weight Tito is gaining more than the inactivity, and that he is gaining age. I think that 154 was his optimal weight and now at 170 I have concerns on how he will manage that weight, and how will be his recuperation between rounds (it used to be in the low 30's seconds). But, now that the fight is signed I think he should prepare himself to go out there a press the fight from round 1 to the end looking for a KO and not allowing Jones to get too much confidence. Although, Jones still have the speed and weight advantage and I admit this may be too tough for Tito, but I hope I can be celebrating for 3 consecutive days, drunk...

I hope you didn't mean in that order, I like your matchups but he should go from middle to heavy. Makes more sense than the order presented. I thought it was kind of silly for him to try to lose that much weight in order to go from Ruiz to Tarver. Sure someone with more meat and less muscle would have an easier time of it but imo it made Roy too weak to be impressive.
