Tonights fight was won on skill, people talked about Kessler's power as if it was something that would decide the fight, power doesn't win fights, speed doesn't win fights, skill wins fights. Joe has bags of boxing skill and imho is second only to Mayweather in pound for pound boxing ability.

    Well done Joe

I would say he is a better overall fighter than mayweather. Mayweather is a great defensive fighter, has tremendous reflexes and speed and his offense is not really worth talking about, doesn't throw combinations, doesn't jab much, his best punch which he uses is right hand leads and his chin is untested. Joe can box, brawl, counterpunch, control the ring, has fast hands, power and a very good chin which was tested numerous times tonight.
While I do think that Joe Calzaghe is the shit...I sure as hell wouldn't put him into the same bracket as Floyd.

Well Wacks I was beging to think about Joes skills a while a go and while agree his defense is miles from Floyd I think as an overall view Joe is very well up there with him I mean Joe more then makes up for it with his offense and the way he uses the ring dodging punches hands on the side a la RJJ winding the punches and countering. His jab was something else tonight and hes shown tonight that his skills exceed more then what we had seen.

Joe does have a great defence when he wants to use it or needs to get through a strom, he just loves getting in the trenches imo..

I went in last night supporting calzaghi, by the 7th round was cheering for kesslar. If kesslar throw some more punches he could of won the fight as joe was scared of his power. After the forth round battering calzaghi recieved he was running for the rest of the fight, spoiling kesslars boxing, but all credit goes to joe as thats not an easy thing to do. The 12th round said it all for me, when kesslar went for broke joe couldnt handle the heat, only if he did that for the last 3-4 rounds of the fight and we may have seen a different scoreline.

Concering calzaghi with older greats, would have beat ben, collins etc. Toney close fight

BUT Roy Jones would have given Calzaghi a WHOOPING of a lifetime. Calzaghi depends on his boxing skill when in trouble and is better than most at it, but Roy Jones was a boxing perfectionist on par with Floyd Mayweather, and had knockout power too. No contest Roy Jones.

I was singing Joes praises before the fight but have lost a little respect since, if he were to beat hopkins, and either pavlik, taylor or winky - i would class him as one of the very best fighters ever.

i think hopkins would be too much for joe, by the way

It is hard to argue with Joes accomplishments but as I said before and this is the last time I will say it......I can not be a Joe Calzaghe fan because he insist on associating with Frank Warren....

Calzaghe is the greatest SMW champion to date easily...I will also say this for the last time...He is not the greatest fighter I ever seen at the SMW limit...That honor still goes to Roy Jones and will for a long long time....At 168lbs Roy Jones was a specimine...Almost impossible to deny that...unbeatable as any fighter I have ever seen,,,EVER!!!....Onky at that weight class though....He did not stay around it long enough to be considered one of the divisions all time great champions though..

Congrats to Calzaghe for his win he has left no one lingering over him as as "well he did not face..." as a question of how dominate he was at SMW....

I also applaude Kessler...nothing for him to be ashamed of and he was a TRUE gentleman who did not make excuses after the fight...That is a champion!!
