Good times...
Just read this, you beat me to posting it. Man that sucks he had a good chance of making the medal stand.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
It didnt suprise me that he was a bantamweight, manipulating weight can be a dangerous thing
That's too bad. I've been following him. Oh well, the US still has 7 more boxers on their team then us, so...
To bad. He's one of the guys who is going to get some of the biggest buzz when he turns pro and I've read before that when he does turn pro it will likely be at 135 so obviously the 119 lb limit was a struggle for him. Good thing he was found though.
Most interesting match-ups tomorrow IMO:
- MW: Matvey Korobov (Russia) vs. Naim Terbunja (Sweden)
My guy to win gold at middleweight against my guy to watch out for...
- LHW: Artur Beterbiev (Russia) vs. Kennedy Katende (Sweden)
Tought draw for the two Swedes who should both be out after the first day of competition.
- LHW: Kenneth Egan (Ireland) vs. Julius Jackson (Virgin Island)
Julius, son of Julian, first ever Olympic boxer from Virgin Island - along with his welterweight brother John. This fight is actually a repeat of last year's worlds where Egan stopped him.
- LHW: Carlos Negron (Puerto Rico) vs. Mehdi Ghorbani (Iran)
How good is Negron? First chance to see tomorrow.
Great draw for Brit Tony Jeffries btw who stand a very decent chance of making it to (at least) the semifinals - where he could easily be meeting Kenneth Egan. Interesting! Darren Sutherland at Middleweight also seems to have good chance at reaching semis (= medal) without too much opposition. The Irish must be happy!
....just heard one of our boxers trying to make the 119 weight limit passed out last night and has been pulled from competition, anyone hear anything about thisForgot the kids name.

Other first-round draws of note:
- Raushee Warren (USA) vs. Lee Ok-Sung (South Korea) @ flyweight. Current world champ against former (2005) world champ.
- Sergei Vodopyanov (Russia) vs. McJoe Arroyo (Puerto Rico) @ bantamweight.
- Badaar-Ugan (Mongolia) vs. Oscar Valdez (Mexico) @ bantamweight.
- Albert Selimov (Russia) vs. Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine) @ featherweight. Repeat of last years WC final.
- Clemente Russo (Italy) vs. Victor Zuyev (Belarus) @ heavyweight. Reigning WC-champ against silver medallist from Athens.
- Islam Timurziev (Russia) vs. David Price (GB) @ super heavyweight. Betting favorite against the British hope.
