IMO this is a real bad fight for Wlad to take, Rahman has a real good jab and right hand and a pretty good reach to go with a solid frame, I can see Wlad pulling straight back and taking one on the pucker for his troubles.. Rahman is a douche and Toney deserves this fight over him.. Wlad will jab his way to victory in this one, but again could be a tricky type Sanders fight.
I just will never be sold on Wlad and have a penchant to bet against him since he is so fragile and passive in there, its not what I want out of my heavyweight champ.
I am a huge Vitali fan and I think it is great he is back if he stays healthy, he is a tough nose solid rugged sum bitch who brings credit to the division to me he is the rightful heir of the division..
It's not the greatest matchup, but Wlad could have done worse than Rahman.
At least we know that Rahman won't be overwhelmed by the spotlight of a big title fight, and he has a puncher's chance.
A few years ago I think so, yes.
But lately Rahman has become lazier and more complacent than ever. It was right to make his last fight a NC with Toney. Thats the rules.
Still he did quit in that fight.
With that kind of attitude he will get stopped by Klitschko fairly early too.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Anybody want to mention that Povetkin probably wasn't going to be a good fight either?
But, he earned his shot. Rahman? Really?
Haye deserves a shot more than this guy.
"...went 12 rounds with Ali, and never took a backwards step."
....I just want to bring up this MANNY STEWARD. He got Lennox to KO Rahman and like 7 years later with a prime fighter I hardly see the difficulty in beating the same old Hasim Rahman.
Rahman and Maskaev are the best choices for Wlad to take on with short notice and here are a few reasons:
1. They both have been KO'd before (by far lesser fighters than Wlad)
2. They are orthodox fighters and aren't exceptionally big or fast
3. They don't have anything tricky in their arsenal
Sure Hasim Rahman has the size to have been somebody special but he's the American Frank Bruno. He has long arms and every now and then he'll look like he's really got something going on but this dude had trouble with Taurus Sykes.....Taurus fucking Sykes!!!
I would rather see John Ruiz or James Toney get blasted but hey Maskaev or Rahman will do....just so long as Wlad isn't fighting another fucking southpaw!

Hasim always had potential but rarely lived up to it....it is nice that his son (Hasim Rahman Jr.) is trained by Manny...maybe there is hope for the Rahman line down the road.
Wladimir will beat the bejeezus out of Hasim....Rahman has long arms but Wlad is the faster, crisper, and stronger puncher. Hasim isn't a tricky fighter at all...he's there to be hit, and with Manny as his trainer Wlad is going to be very prepared to gun him down in impressive fashion I hope.
Rahman might not be the best opponent to draw out the masses (neither was Ray Austin) but he will allow Wlad a chance to fight a fight of his choosing next (perhaps a David Haye fight) or it will just give Wlad the chance to get a huge KO win that will clear out space at the top of the division for other younger fighters.
You could do worse for a late replacement. Remember, this is happening because Povetkin pulled out.
Come on, Lefty, I know you love Haye, but lets not get carried away with Haye taking on Monte Barrett. He hasn't had a quality win in three years, and that was against the mighty Owen Beck. He also lost to a journeyman last year. Kevin Johnson would have been a stiffer test.
Wlad has a good record of defending against quality fighters, if you can call anybody in the HW division quality. Haye will get his chance if he takes care of business.
I hope Rahman sparks him the heavyweight division is ready for a upset and shake up.
....it would be the only way David Haye would have a shot at getting a belt
Wlad has fought some very tough styles recently, guys most heavyweights would lose to but he dominated them. I would love to see how David Haye would handle a Tony Thompson, a HUGE southpaw who boxes very well and has the best defense at heavyweight besides maybe James Toney. I would like to see if Haye could handle a southpaw like Sultan Ibragimov who has fast hands and a sneaky type of power which can catch any fighter off guard.
Wlad-Rahman could be a very good fight....I'm hoping Wlad KO's him like he KO'd Ray Austin....early and brutally
