what were the first words Jones said when he finally lost? i'm not sure if it was in the 2nd Tarver fight or the Johnson loss, but i know he said "it's just not fun anymore" well no shit, getting KTFO isn't fun, and that's coming from a legend, give the kid a break he's 22, he can only learn from this

I think you are being harsh. This was always going to be a tough fight but maybe he was not quite ready for it. Reminds me of Vargas
"Ferocious" Fernando Vargas fought multiple world champion and hall of famer Tito Trinidad for 11 rounds until he could no longer fight or get up to his feet.

"Vicious" Victor Ortiz fought a crude power punching contender and quit in the sixth round.

Aside from the nicknames and fighting out of Oxnard, I don't see much resemblence there.

Was thinking the same.Alot more mellow than Vargas.Almost too much for me during the interview
No way. Vargas would never go out like Ortiz did. Never
Thinking more along the lines of a early push in career and overall longevity.Vargas was the better boxer but built along the same promotion exposure.Vargas was more intense and firery in approach and speaking I'd say that.EDit....they both did and will soak up damage in effort to land more errm

rewatching the end.Shite He pretty much did a todd foster

I never saw the fight, but If it was as grueling as it sounds, I have no issue with him with calling it a day if he did not have any more in him.

He is young and still on a learning curve, he deserves another chance. Why take a beating for nothing? It sucks when they go out like that, but he might do a complete 180 with more maturity and experience.

He'll get another heart test down the line and then we will see where he stands. Everyone deserves 1 pass IMO.

He's a young kid and still learning the game. It's not like this is one of the worst quits in boxing history. Roberto Duran still tops it for me, but yet you still have fans idolizing him and making excuses why he quit.

At least Ortiz quit because he was getting brutally hammered unlike a legend that quit because he was getting outbox.

Never did like him. Not that I didn't think he had skill, I just always wanted him to lose.....like some instinctive voice.

Perhaps Victor didnt know how to correctly express himself, if he would have said "I was beat and but will come back" thats one thing; but the way he expressed himself he made it sound like he was about to quit and start working at Foot Locker.

There is nothing wrong with him being concerned for his health, but we all know the legends would have died in the ring, and personally I wouldnt chase anything that I didnt think I could be the best at.

The part that surprised me the most was that he has had to go thru such a hard lifestyle I would have thought he had alittle more in him than to just quit after only mid level competition, especially after having some amazing moments in the fight.
    The key is Self-discipline.

Ortiz is a pure slugger. He was looking for a KO win in every second of each round. I'm very disappointed seeing him give up like that. But hey, if it was for his own safety so be it. I think he needs a new trainer.

Humble pie addressed to Victor Ortiz just got delivered in the form of ring immovable, Argentinian, Maidano. Victor should wisen up and take this loss as a learning experience. It does so provide him with an excellent perspective and a blueprint, if he ever so decide to undergo further skill restocking and retooling!

I didn't take the he shouldnt be taking punishment like that the way Max did.

Of course Max takes it like he means he shouldnt be boxing.

But i think he meant he shouldn't be in there neglecting his boxing skills and defense and taking punishment and getting beat up by someone he shouldn't be getting beat up by. And I agree with him. He should have used his boxing skill advantages rather then constantly going for the KO. But he's young he is only 22 he'll learn. It was just too much too soon, he wasn't ready to be main eventing yet

Many threads on why people give Khan a hard time already, but it's not down to him being an arrogant prick!

He's no different to any other boxer hyping himself up.

As for Ortiz I haven't seen the fight, anyone know where it'll get uploaded first? Damn UK TV boxing coverage...
