Sure, physically he is deeply affected by his illness, but that razor sharp brain and tongue is still there, as Lennox Lewis found out to his cost, when Ali won the BBC's Sports Pensonality of the (20th) Century award....

Ali has his faith, and he says that keeps him mentally sharp.

Stanley Ketchel - got shot by a jealous husband

Jack Johnson - dies in car crash after being refused service at a Dinner in North Carolina on account of his skin color.

Muhamed Ali - Long slow deterrioration with Parkinson's

Duk Koo Kim - Dies in the ring vs Ray Mancini

George Chuvalo - Son dies of overdose and wife committs suicide

Battling Siki - shot twice in the back of the head at the age of 28, perhaps by a police officer who saw him drunkenly staggaring down the street.

Joe Louis - Sucker punched by the US Government and made dirt poor for his Golden Years, battled drug and alcohol addiction and died penniless after being one of the GREAT Civil Rights Leaders.

Ray Robinson - battled drug addiction and Alzheimer's

Trevor Berbick - Killed by being beaten to death with a metal pipe

Ezzard Charles - Died at 53 due to ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease

....can you guys think of any more, I am sure I left out a bunch
Good stuff bud but one correction. Chuvalo lost 3 sons to heroin and then his wife offed herself. How that guy remains so humble and together is well beyond my capacity.

Emile Griffith pummels Benny Paret to death in the corner of the ring while the ref stands by, waiting too damn long.

Jonny Owen wasn't urinated on as such but cups filled with it were thrown on him while been carried from the ring. The lad had never even kissed a girl. His story is heartbreaking.i believe their is a statue of him in his hometown .
    James Schuler, motorcycle accident
    Zora Folley, swimming accident
    Sonny Liston,drug overdose
Gary Mason, hit by car cycling
An what about poor Bobby Chacon a thrilling battler who now can't tie his own shoes.
Thomas Hearns? I saw an interview with him and his speech is inaudable. There are so many, they say boxing mirrors life, an life ain't fair and sometimes whether our own fault or not ,bad things happen.
