I will go with Rocky's words: "If Joe Louis could not make a successful comeback, I will not try it."
guess Rocky is admitting there that Joe was better.

I read a story about Marciano and louis and comebacks. They did a promotional appearance for a hw title fight and heard the $amounts being tossed around. As they left in a limo, Rocky jumped out and started running along side the car. Louis asked what he was doing. Marciano replied "Making a comeback. Did you hear what they are getting paid?" And Louis jumped out and started running, too..
I think Louis was the best, then Dempsey, then Tunney, then Marciano. (Ali doesn't always break my top 10) But, when it comes to marciano, his conditioning and Goldman make him real tough to beat.
He was in the Army & doing exhibitions and the government wanted their cut afterwards and he never caught back up. A simple Presidential pardon would have helped Joe out plenty but one was never given.
I guess I was thinking about Moore when Rocky was knocked down...eh, what does that tell you about The Rock? Archie was like 85 when they fought.
@El Kabong dont think you like rocky do you? I didnt even know the great archie moore dropped marciano no disgrace in one of the greatest light heavies dropping you imo. You have to respect the fact marciano was a machine he ate and breathed boxing training and running i read he ran 13 miles everyday without fail even on christmas. It was his lack of talent that casts doubts on him but he was one of the all time greats. Biggest heart ever!
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I like Marciano fine...I don't think Archie Moore should have been able to drop him, but hey perhaps The Rock figured it was an easy fight and took his eye off the prize for a second.
I have Joe Louis as being the greatest heavyweight of all time, followed by Rocky, followed by Ali.
Rocky is a favourite of mine along with tyson and ali. I honestly rate tyson very high but my top list changes everyday ....
Yep, Joe's jab was really horrid. I wonder how Floyd Mayweather survived all those years......

yes Goldman probably would not have let Marciano lose. Seriously. Nobody's beatin' Charlie. Nobody. He once took a banana out from under Rocky's pillow while he was sleeping. Strict as fuck. Take a look at Rocky's conditioning. Can't see him ever gettin' tired or even needing a second wind. He'd just wait for so-and-so to need a 2nd wind, and he'd jump on 'im. Lights out. Everybody needs a 2nd wind---Ali used to tire in the 4th, then again in the 9th, he needed a 3rd wind to finish long fights. Do you think Marciano would let him coast then?
