We're not talking about Ruiz at 5 years though. We're talking about the Ruiz who had lost to Jones vs the Fury of now.

The question is, what makes Fury at this point a more legit opponent than Ruiz was in 2003 when Jones beat him?

Jones is the opponent for everyone he faces now. He's a breath away from getting knocked out. Comparably, at the same points in their careers, Ruiz is rubbish compared to Fury which is the point I wanted to make.

It wont happen. You lot are so gullible when it comes to what Fury says. I hope he reads this and laughs. Like his purse split with Haye and his retirement

Jones chose Ruiz because he was so beatable. Had it been Fury back then he wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere near heavyweight. It took a Ruiz to tempt him.

Also, the Ruiz that lost to Jones would lose to Fury of now

Fury mentioning Roy Jones as an opponent just shows he is trying to beat up on smaller none Heavyweights to try and prove his worth at Heavyweight. In his prime, Roy Jones was the best in the world but a shot 40 year old Jones who is getting sparked at Cruiserweight belongs nowhere near a ring with a Heavyweight. Hopefully no athletic commission in the world will sanction this.

I'm a fan of Fury, truth be told. I think a big, goofy arrogant HW is great because at least it brings much needed interest to the HW division.

I think his act is a little transparent though. In the build-up to Haye/Fury, he let a bit of doubt slip every so often (usually when Haye was sitting next to him), using words and phrases like "if I lose", "win or lose", ect, whereas Haye never even entertained the thought of losing the fight. It's always a bad sign when guys speak that way because it means they lack confidence.

I think Haye would have tore him up, and I think Wilder, Arreola and obviously the Klitschkos would whip him as well.

Yes im sick of all the talk , let see him get in the ring and beat a puncher at top level.
There is nothing else to discuss until he actually has a fight.

Ross would have you believe that Cunningham & Johnson satisfy that criteria.

And yes Jones probably stops Huck. Particularly a Huck at the time he fought Cunningham. Huck is getting better but as a boxer his skills are so limited. I love watching him and he as been in battles but Jones was too slick and would hurt Huck with counters and combos
Before Ali fought Liston he was dropped hard by 180lb british journeyman Henry Cooper who had a less than 50% KO ratio and 195lb Sonny Banks.

Fury has been dropped by an ripped 210lb former world champ fighter and another weighing 232lb both 6,3" not light heavyweight journeymen.

Im not comparing Fury to Ali you fucking morons! Like you said, Ali had a granite chin but he was thought to be very vulnerable as he was getting hurt and dropped and awarded gift decisions against very small heavyweights that werent even punchers.
So if you aren't comparing them why are you bringing him up in every argument you make? I just can't wait for Fury to fight someone good and get KTFO so you can eat crow. I know as soon as he does fight someone good it will be his last fight.

In his prime, Roy Jones was the best in the world
    Never!
If you're not The Man at Heavyweight, then you're NOT the Best in the World!

Jones' prime was late '94 (Toney fight) till early '98 (Virgil Hill fight).
At that time, the top Heavyweights in the world were:

    Big Daddy Riddick Bowe
    Big George Foreman
    Michael Moorer
    Iron Mike Tyson
    Evander Holyfield
    Lennox Lewis
    Atomic Bull Oliver McCall
    Tommy Morrison
    Merciless Ray Mercer
    Andrew Golota
    David Tua
    Larry Holmes
    Ike Ibeabuchi
    Tim Witherspoon
    Donovan Razor Ruddock

Roy was a phenomenal athletic talent, maybe the greatest athletic talent there's ever been in boxing, but he would've been squashed like a peanut by any of those guys above if he fought any of them at that period.

I completely disagree and think its nuts to believe you must beat the best heavyweights to be the best boxer in the world when you are NOT a heavyweight.

However, I like that you took the time to type out all those guys' nicknames lol

Pound-For-Pound is a figment of the imagination.
What really matters is when a real actual fight happens between two men, who comes out on top.
    That's the real Best fighter.

Weight classes were invented because these little light-in-the-@r$e fighters could never beat the top Big Men. With very, very rare exception, the Heavyweight always comes out on top.

A good Big Man beats a Great little man. Way she goes, accept it.

Promoters realized these little half-pints can still really fight though, and that there was money to be generated from them even if they can never beat the Big Man, so they invented weight classes. All these lower-weight titles are consolation prizes for guys that could never be the True #1 Big Dog in All the Entire Sport of Boxing: The Heavyweight Champion of the World.

He is the True King of the Ring.
He sits atop a world talent pool of about 16 thousand licensed professional boxers right now.
Hundreds of them, the Heavies, the cruisers, the light-heavies, the top super-middles; they could kick the $#!t out of Floyd Mayweather.
Only maybe 2 or 3 have a chance of beating Heavyweight Champ Klitschko: the true best fighter in all Boxing.

I'll tell you this: handicap match, 2 against one, Floyd Mayweather and Nonito Donaire versus Dr. Ironfist Vitali Klitschko. Vitali would literally kill either guy with a single jab. Vitali probably craps bigger than Nonito's whole body...

None of these other 15 lighter weight classes can f*<k with the Heavyweight Champ of the World...
