How can you tell that? How can we say he's improving if he never fights?
I'm no GGG nut hugger , but from a boxing perspective, what's not to like?
I'm also not a Ward Hater, but he doesn't do himself any favours.
I fail to see the point of GGG going up to SMW to challenge Ward , as win or lose , there are no other fights up there for him . I think the fight will never happen for all sorts of reasons on both sides, but for the record, if it did, my money would be on Ward.
Nobody is trying to say he's one of the greats , but it's undeniable that he is streets ahead of anyone in the division, and going up in weight isn't really an option because of the above.
If Ward wants to fight GGG he needs to go to 160. Plain and simple. Ward and his fans seem to think Ward has done something remarkable in boxing and is able to dictate everything about his fights. Similar to Floyd until he fights out of his comfort zone he will never prove how good he really is. After he won the super 6 he should have gone straight to 175 and fought the best fighters up there instead of having shite catchweights HOPING TO GET A GOOD PAYDAY AGAINST A SMALLER FIGHTER. Something GGG is criticised for. At least the smaller fighter is a world champion in his weight class.
As for the thread question Id say Cotto would put up a better fight. Canelo is just too easy to hit and against a guy like Golovkin that just wont fare well.
Hmm well none of the other so-called great middleweights in the last 40 years fought anyone either. They made their grade by beating up x-welters long out of their prime. One could easily argue that the Kazak has fought stiffer middleweight competition then any of them. The guy also wants to stay and unify and there's nothing wrong with that and its admirable because its rarely done w/o the stars aligning. Even if the others cant beat him well that's their problem. The others could not beat Bernard or Hagler either but they still fought. He also does not have the luxury of having any superstar welters jumping up to fight him which was common place in other eras either because they could no longer make weight or they just wanted to challenge themselves. Today when they cant make weight and feel to small to move up they merely make another weight class. The other 160 pound paper weights find every reason in the book not to fight him save David with "business" being the lamest and the welters today would rather off themselves. No other middleweight has had to deal with that kind of avoidance ever. Fact is, he's been just as dominant a middleweight champion as any other in the modern era and one could argue more so with relative ease. He's beaten more actual middleweights then most of them and done so much more impressively and years ahead of them.
The MW division is no worse then the SMW division. Badou Jack and Saiko Bika are recent world champs ffs![]()
I actually think Cotto would do better against Golovkin than Alvarez. Alvarez's feet are far too slow for him to do any damage against Golovkin but at least Cotto could box him on the back foot for a few rounds before he got flattened.
