I don't love him, but he certainly gained a LOT of my respect.

There are lots of good reasons for many of us not knowing just how good Joe was.
He had been sitting on one belt not unifying sh!+, fighting very average opposition,
not fighting on the biggest of media stages (SHO once?) and the only real name on his resume (Eubank) was old when Calzaghe beat him by decision.

If Lacy hadn't called him out I still wouldn't know how good he is.
