Who REALLY won the Hatton vs Collazo fight?

Hatton lost the fight. He was almost out on his feet in the last round. He'd be destroyed by Mayweather Margarito Judah/ anybody at welterweight who can punch. Even Gatti would beat him. Last night's fight shortened his career greatly, as he now will never have an elite fight at welterweight again. He just can't do his thing with heavier guys. He's left with Corrales, Castillo and maybe Cotto if he doesn't move up. Ricky's bubble was well and truly burst last night. I'm English, have watched all his fights and been a fight fan for over 20 years now. As much as Ricky's fans may not want to admit it ( I'm one too ), his dreams of PFP greatness are over. I'll bet any money that Hatton never fights a genuine welter again.

I think it was judged pretty fair but there were 2 deciding factors
1) HBO's NEW contract with Hatton
2) Collazo's NEW contract with Don King

those balanced each other out and it was fairly judged and both fighters (collazo imparticular) will be more indemand. Hatton will fight guys more on his percieved level eventually winning over the US fan base and Collazo will fight the contenders and make a bigger name for himself.

If Hatton did eventually fight Gatti he will need to show mad respect to him because like De la Hoya vs JCC he'll be resented BIG TIME if he whips Gatti in Atlantic City!!!

I scored the fight 115-112 for Collazo last night and I re-watched it this morning and still came up with the same scoring... if anything, re-watching the 12th round again, you could have scored that a 10-8 round for Collazo.
Sure Hatton was the aggressor, but watch the fight closely... he landed very little meaningful shots from around the 4th round onwards. Most of the punches he threw either missed or hit the gloves/arms of Collazo. If you are still going to be scoring rounds for fighters who are having their punches blocked, then you are not following the rules. Collazo was hitting Hatton with nice combos and generally being all round more effective, although I could see how some people might score certain rounds for Hatton on first viewing.

I think 'compu whatever it's called' had Hatton landing more punches with a 35% success rate and Collazo 30% success rate with less punches thrown.

Although I thought it was a tough call and perhaps more likely a draw as per my first post:

Overconfident, overawed, outboxed, that's how I saw the fight in the early hours of the morning. I am a huge Hatton fan and hold a natural bias for the man from my home town. BUT This was without a shadow of a doubt the most difficult performance/matchup I have ever witnessed of Hatton's, and I have seen the majority of them. What certainly was apparent was that Hatton could not bully in the ring at the new weight. I dont use the term 'bully' in a derogotory term as that is his style and that is the style I like to see, but he couldn't do it this morning. I really didn't think the fact that Collazo was taller, would be the difficulty, Hatton has faced taller compition previously (such as the Maussa), but it did prove difficult. As correctly noted by Sky in their commentary, Hatton kept getting hit by the right hook from Colazzo, and that was when he could see! His left eye was so badly shut by the latter rounds that he was getting hit with alarming regularity. I had the fight tight. I did think Colazzo was shook several times in the fight, but felt he definitely got through with the cleaner shots. Hatton did work hard as usual and did outwork as he normally does, but simply without the power and snap we are accustomed to seeing. I hate to say it but have to agree with Colazzo when he said he expects a guy to do better than that to take his title. I would have to agree. It now leaves unanswered questions about Hatton at 147. At 140 I think he is too strong a prospect but may have real difficulties with the bigger weight. I admire Ricky for moving up, fighting for a belt straight away and fighting in the states, but the man who really impressed me tonight was Luis Collazo, who was quick with his hands, courageous, gracious in defeat (considering the closeness) and a guy who can make giant steps in the welterweight division.

Compubox never tells the story of a fight, it is very inaccurate in my opinion. Anyway, Hatton landed a lot in the opening rounds, but then Collazo started to figure him out.
If a fighter lands, lets say, 100 punches in the first 4 rounds compared to about 20 for the other guy... if, from that point on the fighter who landed 100 punches only lands 20 punches a round and the other guy lands about 25 a round, Compubox will show that the fighter who lost most of the rounds landed more, so it is never accurate enough if you are scoring a fight on the 10 point must system.
But still, it was the type of fight that would be hard to score on first viewing so I don't blame anyone who gave Hatton the nod.

Rounds 3 and 8 could of gone either way.

Hatton took another step to proving he could become a great fighter. A skill that is going to be required is the ability to win a fight that was close, and not dominated by yourself.

It is a bit eye opener to Hatton fans, because even in the Tszyu fight, it was not this close. Well get use to it, because the same journey is almost certainly going to happen to Ricky when he hopefully steps into the ring with a Mayweather or de la Hoya...

But one think I have not read about so far, is what a superb performance by Collazo. The man gutted it out big time from a horrible start. Collazo may not of had the pedigree going into the fight, but he sure deserves another big fight down the line on this performance.

Perhaps Lil Floyd or Zab Zab may want to show Ricky where he went wrong... but then again perhaps not, no one is going to look good against Collazo if he carries on fighting like he did this morning!

Hatton looked like a bum tbh, Collazo was robbed in my opinion, he through faster, cleaner more effective punches. Hattons punches were all glancing punches and were slidding off of collazo the whole night.

Hatton is the luckiest guy on earth because he didnt win that fight at all and didnt look like the Hatton i or anyone else knows, He looked like a random bum in the ring.

I thought the right man won. It was close, and I wouldn't have been irate if Collazo won or if it was a draw, but I did think Hatton just about edged it on the rounds, winning one or two more, and he had a knockdown going in his favour too.

Of course now Hattons in for it on the internet, but it was to be expected, if he won easily then people would be whining on about how he only fights no hopers and is scared to fight the real talent, as it was a close, hard fought fight people will say he's been overrated all along or he moved up in weight to soon. Hyperbole always overcomes the objective reaction that it was a hard fought match between two evenly matched guys, and one pulled out just a little extra to win.

Not because I couldn't see him getting the nod even though I scored it for Collazo, but because ONCE Hatton started losing, he didn't do what you say at all, he didn't turn things around and the fight got consistently worse for him as it progressed.. He didn't adapt whatsoever and because of it easily could have lost the fight.. As well if he hadn't scored a somewhat lucky knockdown early, he wouldn't have won.. So I don't see what you mean here, it's not like Hatton pulled it out of the bag although he was in danger of losing.. If anything he built an early lead and the just got beat up for the 2nd half of the fight. Big difference. THat's like saying Joe Mesi proved he could be great by winning a close fight against Vassily.

I am not saying it adds to his greatness, because Hatton is not great at the moment, indeed he is quite far from it.

But one day, if he does fulfill his potential, and is considered a great, people will look back at this fight, and see a not 100% Hatton fighting a tricky opponent, and being in serious trouble for the first time in his career. But they will also see that Hatton won.

A situation that happened to Roy Jones in his first fight against Montell Griffin, but the big difference to Hatton is Ricky has found a way to win unlike Roy, who was unable to control himself, and got himself DQ'd.

My point is, it could be a plank of evidence to show Hatton's Greatness in the fullness of time.

Unfuckinbelievable!!! When I went to bed last night it was like 14 for Collazo, 5 for a draw and 4 for Hatton, which is about right. Now Hatton has like 30 fukin votes?! How can anyone think Hatton honestly won that fight? So much for having any honor or dignity, huh Hatton fans? When your fighter loses, admit it. Same goes for Jermain Taylor fans. Some people ....
