Well, when I saw the topic, my thoughts went to Hatton and Calzaghe, simply because we have a good batch of Brits on here, and we have to shout pretty loud to any of the so-called top fighters in the US to even consider them, so hyping them up is really just a way of getting them up to the level of the americans who have the better worldwide exposure.

However, my pro-brit boxer agenda aside, I maintain that the toughest fight for Calzo to take would be Tarver at light-heavy at the moment, as his 8 July fight seems more and more likely to be a token opponent, as time goes by.

Hell, I think he'd beat Johnson and clinton Woods within the distance, though Tarver would be a tough call, but until they get in the ring, and you see how the preparation has gone, and how tactically attuned they are to the opposition, then there's no such thing as a sure thing in boxing. (insert further cliche's here)

I replied before to this thread, but I have to put another name on here. Mike Tyson. I love him, but alot of people on here think that he would just destroy everyone in history. As much as I want to agree, I can't because I know better.

I think Clinton Woods is a bit over rated. He's honest and game but I don't think his an elite fighter. He exposed Rico Hoye in a good performance but around that he's beaten Jason Delisle (clubfighter) twice. The victory over Julio Gonzalez is given too much weight IMO. Gonzales is in serious decline and was beaten by Zolt Erdei who is a very VERY ordinary champion. He needs to beat Adamek, Briggs or Tarver to be considered a solid champion

Only time I've seen Woods fight, he was absolutely schooled by Roy Jones en route to being stopped. But nobody was beatin Roy back then. I agree Hoye was never that good and Gonzalez has been on the decline it seems for a couple years now. I heard Woods had a couple close fights with Johnson a few years ago though, so he must not be too bad.

I hate Tarver myself and hope B-hop will beat him. If he and Joe fought, less Joe was bein real real cocky, I'd be rooting for Joe. It just pisses me off a lil when I say Glen Johnson would be a tough competetive fight for Calzaghe, maybe just whip him, and I am laughed at and told Joe would beat him easily like he did Lacy, which is nonsense.

why is that nonsense. make some good points to support your argument. just because you say its nonsense doesn't make it. rationalize it

Glen Johnson is a superior fighter to Jeff Lacy in every aspect, except two, youth and power. Other than that he is far more expierenced, more versatile, has much better defense, has faster hands, and is nearly tied with Tarver as being the best LH in the world. Joe Calzaghe can't pop, how is he gonna hurt Johnson? Not to mention unlike Lacy, Glen has big fight expierence and would not freeze up or stop throwing punches. If anything he would punch with Calzaghe and most like hurt him the way I see it. Johnson has really come of age as of late and is a very difficult fighter to defeat, particularly for a smaller man like Joe who does not possess the power to hurt Glen IMO. Yeah I know Johnson fought at middle weight and what not, but now he is the bigger man, and has grown into LH quite nicely.

It is glen johnson who doesn't have the power to knock calzaghe. he landed so many punches on Tarver but didn't hurt him in both of his fights. It took him 9 rounds of constant power punching to knock the immoble roy jones out. he has 29 knockouts in 44 (64%) wins, Joe has 31 knockouts in 41 wins (75%) he is a come forward fighter which is best suited for Joe calzaghe, joe could move all night and use his superior hand speed and foot movement blast johnson all night. Lacy didn't stop throwing punches because of his inexperience its because he was battered and was using most of his conditioning to survive the fight, the same thing can happen to johnson when he is being pounded from every angle. If you say calzaghe can't pop then you need to see what lacy's face looked like after the fight. I for one don't want johnson to fight joe, I really like johnson he is the millenium's cinderella man but cinderella's magic has a time limit. same thing happened to James Braddock when he came across Joe Louis. even johnson knows this he said in his famous quote, " I am not the best, I am just a guy who is willing to fight the best".

So Calzaghe hits harder than Johnson? Have YOU seen Johnson's last two fights? He KO'd George Khalid Jones, and knocked Richard Hall down a couple times en route to giving him the beating of a life time. And Hall barely if at all buzzed Johnson and Richard Hall can hit pretty damn hard. A hell of a lot harder than fukin Joe Calzaghe. Johnson is a very good fighter despite his record, and Calzaghe is not unbeatable just because he beat up on Jeff Lacy.

Johnson doesn't have a one punch knockout power, his knockouts come in the late rounds from wearing you out and landing one too many shots. Joe is too mobile to get hit all night long due to his foot speed and ring genralship. I like johnson but he will be the underdog in this fight.

i think the most hyped up fighter by far is pbf, dont get me wrong, he is one of the best fighters of the moment, but since i saw a thread on 'the greatest boxer of all time' and pbf was up there with many retired legends when hes not even retired yet, i reliased that he is has been hyped up to much.

This is a kinda silly thread IMO. If the definition of hype is noise about a fighter, then the definition of over-hype is when they don't live up to all the noise, therefore, I'd say that Zab Judah, James Toney and Jeff Lacy are all majorly over-hyped, Hattons bad night (were he still won) could be conceived as overhype, although I'm pretty sure he's gonna prove all the naysayers wrong, unlike Judah and Toney. Lacy needs to step it up before he goes off the radar.

Really? He fought 5 times in less then a calendar year after winning a belt. He said in an interview with a St. Petersburg newspaper that he's looking to get back in the ring in October. He deserves a little half year break imo.

I like Cotto as well, I think it's great and we get to see him develop and grow fight to fight
As far as picking fights goes I think his boys have made the most intelligent decisions for
him to fight at a competitive level. I think he will school Malignaggi, but Castillo will be
the proving grounds for him.
