Tribute to Gerald McClellan

After my initial post early on and not really knowing the stories behind Mclellans history i have given this some thought. The first point I feel is that as a fan of boxing we have been robbed of a potentially tremendous talent. The second point is that the morale arguement regarding his condition as being a justification for what he has done is one that many people will argue for and against this. Personally I would not wish this on anyone and I feel sorry for his kids being robbed of their father to a certain degree. Thats my opinion and I can't argue against someone elses opinion as they are entitiled to it. Some people feel so strongly about certain things and thats a good thing too.

Boxing offers many people a road out of a bad life and perhaps he could have turned his behaviour outside the ring around. When I read some of the stories about him they really horrified me and seeing what happened to the him in the ring was horrifying as well. Like I say as a fan of boxing he was a tremendous boxer. The whole thing though is a terrible story from start to finish.

A tragic story from so many angles no matter what your opinion is .

And I dont feel for his kids, as they wont have a dad to bring them up to tie up dogs and set bulldogs onto them to rip to shreds.

Killing animals might be cruel but we're all guilty of it, unless you live purely on cabbage and carrots and wear clothes made of hemp.

Even then if you use pesticides or make no effort to re-home the slugs and bugs you displace when you uproot their food supplies to feed your own selfish stomachs then you too are a murderer without compassion.

My point is that every culture and person on this earth has a different view of what is cruel and what is not. To judge a man purely on his actions that you have read about without having walked in his world, and see life through his eyes you cannot really judge.

McClellan could just as easily be a victim of a horrible culture into which he was born and brought up.

To condemn a man to death purely because you have read an article on him, written by somebody else, quoting what somebody else said about him is just foolish.

At the end of the day EVERY single animal death in the Western World at least is a result of entertainment, the pleasure of a nice leather sofa, the latest trendy trainers, the tastiest burger, its all about entertainment.

Myself I would never want to watch two animals kill each other, but on the other hand I was perfectly happy for somebody else to kill a bunch of cows on my behalf so I could enjoy my nice leather Italian design sofa.

I was also perfectly happy for KFC to kill some animal (probably not a chicken :P) so I could enjoy my Zinger Tower Burger at the weekend.

We are all guilty, there is no one blameless.
