Man! F#*k Roy Jones, He's an arrogant asshole, who still acts like he undefeated, he better check his record before he gets his a** handed to him again. Sure RJJ was lighting fast, had incredible reflexes and good power, in his prime.... but he never had a chin, once his reflexes started to slow down and he started getting hit, unlike Ali who had a simular problem after his return from exile in the 60's, Ali's reflexes were no where near as sharp as they had been, yet Ali remained sucessful in the ring because of his ability to take a punch. Roy's chin is weak, and as Merchant and Lampley have both stated Roy was the only fighter HBO allowed to pick his fights, he would go thru a list and say O.K. OR NO!!! And as far as RJJ fighting Oscar, JONES IS A NATURALLY BIGGER MAN, so its a little unfair to say Oscar was ducking Roy, and Oscar never ducked anyone in his weight class, Jones can't say that. Also Jones was the head speaker or m.c. whatever at the world premiere of Ray Robinson's BRIGHT LIGHTS AND DARK SHADOWS in New York City a few yrs back, and he was trash talking the REAL SUGAR MAN, saying that he was the greatest fighter ever and that Robinson had multiple fights with opponents because he did'nt whup em enuff, and nobody wants RJ again after he's done wit them, the last I checked Robinson had over 200 pro fights and was never KTFO, and Robinson fought a who's who in his career, So RJ as he calls himself or Roy Jones Jr better take a reality check on his self.

Beating Ruiz was no great feat, a fat, bloated jelly like James Toney did it too, know if Roy had Beaten Lennox Lewis, then I would be impressed.

Agreed...again...but I think that what TheBESTP4P is saying is that Jones did just the right thing at just the right time for him...which many fighters do for their fans.

That being said...Roy faced just the right fighter at just the right time when he fought Ruiz. Had Roy manned up & faced Lewis...he would have been beaten.

Who the hell are you to say counting light bulbs doesn't add to a fighters skillset. Most fighters can't even count, much less lightbulbs!

Beat Trinidad but was robbed, robbed again in the 2nd Mosley fight, & Chavez is a legend. Toney was weight drained, McCallum was way over the hill, Hopkins was the one he fought near his best.

I think both fighters are all time greats. I like ODH and am rather indifferent to RJJ. I thought ODH got robbed against Mosely2 and Tito, but I also felt he lost to Sweat Pea and Sturm. I really felt that Oscar has no business fighting over 154 and maybe not 147 for that matter. As far as P4P rankings I'd probably put RJJ slightly ahead of ODH, but had ODH spent more time at Lightweight where I think he was the most dominant I might change that. In the end ODH fought just about every top fighter of his generation minus Tzyu. RJJ did his legacy a great disservice by fighting in a weak divsion against little known opposition. Once RJJ became a LHW Roy never fought Calzaghe/ottke/Darius, any of the top super middles or middles and never fought any of the top cruisers like Tiozzo. Its very conceivable he would have destroyed all of those guys with ease as well but we will never know. To me RJJ showed us great talent and ODH showed us great fights.

cc bro excellent points, I agree with everything you said except about Whitaker I thought Oscar won that one.

Roy jones is definetly the better fighter because of his god gifted talent, he is also the more self-centered and egotistical of the two. He is a man who has so long talked of himself in the third person that when he looks into the mirror he has to be introduced to himself. Jones from begining had no interest in helping his sport, little interest in hyping his events and a lot of interest in demanding big guarantees, after which he seldom cooperated with the people paying them. also he has said the most ludicrous things over the years the most recent of which was when he was asked of his one-sided loss to Tarver, he claimed that he threw the fight just so his dad wouldn't bask in the glory his victory would have brought. Once considered the pound-for-pound most talented boxer in the world, he has become a circus act often disrespecting his opponents and everyone he came in contact with. He was difficult in the way divas are difficult and eventually it made him distasteful to deal with. when he took the job of announcer at HBO (a job which netted him 5.6 million dollars a year) it was customary for the announcer to meet up for production meetings and prefight meetings. But jones claimed that since he was roy jones, the insight he brings as fighter is much superior to the ones being discussed at these meeting. When roy started his promotional company he signed winky wright and wright always complained how roy never got him the big fights and never lifted a finger to promote the fights. Oscar has done more for the sport than roy, Roy has noone to blame but himself.

I respect Oscar for holding his peace for that long you can only turn the other cheek but so much. Oscar did look for the best and fought the best and Roy Jones did duck some ppl, but the ppl that Roy duck he would of still dominated them. We cant forget that even though Roy fought a hopkins of 10 yrs ago he beat him with a broken right hand. Oscar is humble and Roy likes to talk trash that is there personality I still don't think Roy talks as much as Floyd, but in all honesty Oscar needs to be quiet cause he talking trash to someone who could end his career.

Oh yeah I'm not sure if it was Oscar but does anyone recall the event when Oscar was talking about Mike Tyson saying he is bad for the sport but Tyson got by his bodyguard than Oscar shut up or something along those lines. I can't remember the details so I don't want to mislead anyone cause it was long time ago like after the Clifford Etienne fight.

    EASY!

In my opinion it's hard to call Oscar humble. He may not of been as overt with his ego as Roy, but he still has as big if not a bigger ego. The guy has how many kids he treats as if they dont exist? (sorry this makes you a piss poor human being) How often do you hear about Oscar donating any of his money to other fighters who can barely afford to survive? Roy has, and not just with Gerald Mcclelland - as Mike Tyson has donated money to alot more than just 1 fighter. Deep down I think Roy is a genuinely good guy who made some bad decisions with how he promoted himself and if he could of gone back in time to change it all I'm sure he would. The trash talking is irrelevant, Ali did it and everyone praises him for it - and Ali isn't the beginning of a pimple on the ass of Roy Jones

So maybe on the outside Roy seems like an asshole, but it's hard to deny the good intentions. Oscar whether you like to believe it or not is a snake concerned with only one thing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, even though you have to give him props for taking all the dangerous fights

Did I mention Oscar has chicken legs?

Respect that post and I can understand where you are coming from and that is the second time I have heard that about Oscar cause my trainer says Oscar has a bad personality off the screen.I don't know if it is true but that is the second time I heard him being called a snake.

actually Oscar wrote a check to the late levander johnson's family after his demise the media speculated it to be around 5 to 7 million dollars. Oscar donated a huge piece of land to the government for building of a high school in a poor neighbourhood in california. he started the Oscar de la hoya foundation which gives tution money to underpriveledged kids who can't afford to pay for post-secondary. he donated 5 million dollars to the cancer society in his mother's name, also gave 1 million dollar to a children's hospital. On thanksgiving he donates turkeys to the poor and on christmas he gives toys to the neighborhood kids. These are just a little of what I know, oscar has probably given more. I think it is safe to say oscar is more generous and does more to help his community and his sport
