I dont think you need to have actually boxed to understand it, it does give you a different perspective. For instance, when I watch fights with friends that have never boxed, they can never believe it when a fighter is knocked out by a body punch. They always declare the the fighter took a dive.
I try to explain how nasty a body punch can be, but I think it is something you really need to experiance.
I've never boxed but I have punched in the stomach. I couldnt get up for about 10 minutes.Originally Posted by lance Uppercut
I was riding to GameCrazy to purchase a copy of Gladius for PS2 ( I just discovered this game and I really enjoy it) and thinking about this thread.  I have not read every single post yet, so if what I am about to say has already been said then kudos to you, buddy.
Anyway, some people draw the blueprints while other people build the project.  You can mentally know how to do something from step one to fin but not have the physical skills to accomplish the task.  That doesn't make you less aware than the person who has both.
You know the famous saying..

Actually very clever what you are saying here. For example Christopher Wren is credited with building St Pauls Cathederal but he didn't actually build it did he?Originally Posted by BoxingGorilla

Well you got a load of experience but you never turned pro so you were a bum fighter to be fair.Originally Posted by bigragu
But I won't hold that against you. Just because you were crap inside the ring doesn't mean your opinions arn't as valid as mine.

it's hard to get fights when you're in the big boy division...might go months....or have to fight in open class....either way if your in shape you could dominate...providing you can take a good shot to the head....Originally Posted by Lyle

how funny you are Mr. Baggin!!!!!!!!!!!! I was not committed enough.....I could take a punch and give back more ...I just got out of it(Girlfriends and then the ex-wife) and recently got back into it....all of those guys I listed I held my own...well Manning Galloway knotted me up pretty good but I had only been fighting for 8 months or so and he had just won the WBO title at the time....not really a true sparring session....

I always assumed that most of the people on in this forum competed at some level...just as important as competing is being a student of the game and being able to break down a fight...I still have some active amature and pro friends that are not very good at breaking down a fight....or at least picking the right opponentsand their records show it....
I agree with the poster that is frustrated with most announcers that have never had a boxing lesson let alone been in the ring with anyone hitting back...I often wonder how LL, Manny, George or Roy kept from telling Merchant and Lampley to Shut the eff up!
I'm not sure how much in the ring experience Al Bernstein has but he seems to do a pretty good job...imo
Only jesting mate, I wouldn't even climb into the ring for sparring session, I'm a bit gay really.Originally Posted by bigragu
