I have to echo DaxxKahns small beef with Tito.

I have one other problem with Tito but its not something I hold specifically against Tito only.

Tito was an unbelievable champ but had, if such a thing is possible, too much ambition. Despite his KO of Joppy, Tito didnt belong in the ring with true middleweights such as B Hop and tarnished his legacy slightly by going after that bigger prize. I have this problem with many fighters, but more so fans who demand fighters jump up weights to prove themselves. Weight limits are there for a reason, if your two or three above your natural weight your putting yourself in danger and at a serious disadvantage.

I guess the only reason I hold this against Tito is because he could of dominated at JM or even WW and we could be seeing Pretty Boy, JLC, Cotto and such challenging for the great ones title now. Imagine that!
Looking back, AC... I kinda wish Tito would've stayed at 147 or 154. But his KO over Joppy shouldn't be brushed off as something less than spectacular. Matter of fact, Tito's dismantling of Joppy and his subsequent loss to Hopkins should serve more as a testament to Hopkins' greatness as a middleweight than to Joppy's "not being worthy" as a middleweight. Don't forget, Joppy was a highly regarded middleweight in his own right until he met Tito. That can't be swept under the rug.

However, the victory did create some unreasonable expectations for Tito.... expectations he was unable to fulfill against an all-time great, natural middleweight like Hopkins, and later against someone of the stature of Wright.
Oh, you misunderstood me man. In no way was I trying to discredit the win over Joppy, that was still an amazing feat in itslef, Joppy being a consistent top 5 middleweight during most of his career. I just dont feel a fighter should move up to be on a lesser pedastal at a higher weight. Trinidad was a true all time great dominant champ at 147 and 154 and I feel it was always clear bigger guys, especially a natural light heavy in Bernard Hopkins were gonna cause Tito too much trouble for him to be the same at middleweight.
Naw, I understood you right, AC. Matter of fact, you make a very good argument. Have a CC for that. Had Tito stayed at 147 or 154, he could've been dominant for years to come. My only point is that, having dominated Joppy thoroughly in his first fight at 160, may have lulled Tito into a false sense of security, thinking he could just waltz through the middleweights.

Tito Trinidad was a perfect example of what a knowledgeable fan would call a hard worker in the ring. Haters dissect fighters and fans recognize what a fighter like Tito really represents, someone who combined everthing and went into a fight working hard to combine everything he learn in camp and most of all was consistent. He entertained us just like the hard working Marvelous Marvin Hagler did. Carlos Monzon and Ray Leonard also proved hat there were great fighters before Mike Tyson arrived and to know this means we have open minds and that is what a fan is open and ready to be entertained. Hate for those out there that partake in this nasty emotion is a full time job and it doesn't pay well.
