Honestly...I think it's a shame that everyone rips into Lacy like he was trash...his demolitions & devastating wins over the men that he fought disproves that theorey.

What people have to realize is that some fighters are never the same after they take a beat down like the Calzaghe gave Lacy.

I still like & respect Lacy...but he won't ever be the same again.

The WBC gave him the honor of Emeritus Champion.....Vitali wants to cash in on that....what's cowardly about it? All Vitali did was come out of retirement and want a fight.....cowards ALWAYS want to fight don't they.

I think the Sam Peter fans' assholes tightened up once Vitali came back because they realize it may be too hard for their dashiki wearing friend to get a title.

No fighter is a coward. But I think there was a clip of a fighter who was actually trying to run out of the ring after being hit and tried to jump over the rope and the fighter knocked him out in mid jump over the rope.

The main reason so many were picking Lacy wasn't because they thought he was so great, it's because they thought Calzaghe was a protected fraud. And even the people who picked Lacy, I don't recall ANYONE putting him in their top 10 p4p, primarily because he had yet to fight anyone. He was simply a prospect whom people thought had a tremendous upside. What's a shame is Calzaghe fans actually trying to convince people he deserves all time great status simply from destroying a fighter who was merely an untested prospect.

i guess its cuz people see a guy fight and win then rematch and win and know he deserves the shot.
Then a guy comes back from a retirement that was his choice and steps in line.
It just seems unfair and not the "manly" thing to do .

...only because he fights the worst guys out there. Is a fight with Zuri Lawrence up next for him? Oh no, it's too soon for that, Zuri has to not box for a year, THEN he'll get a title shot!

Most people picked Lacy to beat Calzaghe because they didn't know who Calzaghe was. Alot of boxing fans in the States know little about fighters from other countries until they fight in the States. Lacy wasn't anything more than a prospect when he fought Calzaghe and an overrated one in my opinion. I remember thinking before that fight why people were hyping up a one-dimensional fighter who was facing run-of-the-mill talent. None of this is Calzaghe's fought and he still showed a tremendous amount of skill to dominate a fighter in that fashion, but Lacy was nowhere near the level people made him out to be.

Took the words right out of the mouth. That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure beds had it in his avatar. Couldn't tell you who the fighter was.

#1 it's not the first time a one dimensional fighter has been "hyped up"

#2 Jeff Lacy, as green as he was took a fight vs a seasoned champ (and one of the best ever in that weight class) on his home turf....give the guy his props!

#3 I think it says a lot more about Jeff Lacy's character that he was willing to risk such a beating than Joe Calzaghe fighting vs a young kid....if Joe was a great champion he would have made the fights vs the greats happen....(but by that rational RJJ, Hopkins, Toney, Eubank, Benn, Collins, Michalzweski, Ottke, etc could have made such fights happen as well)



So really Jeff Lacy deserves his props as does Peter Manfredo....I mean they risk life and limb by going over seas to fight "the best" and they definantly weren't/aren't ready for it....they have some big balls doing that vs such a dangerous fighter
