    why are they counter Offering?
They are trying to meke it impossible so vitali will have no choice but to wait his turn. If it was about the money, Peter would have taken that money already because that's alot of money to be passing on. You name another fighter who would turn down that much to sit and wait.

i agree that peter has earned his shot, But it is not Vitali klitschko's fault that he is using a RIGHT that was given to him.

ok, let me ask this alittle slower.
    Why........Is...........Duva/King.......Counter.......Offering
to counter offer means, they say no to 2.5 mill and ask for more, and if they ask for more and WBC says yes, THEN that means "team peter" will step aside.

I think Peter rejected the offer because he knows he can't beat Vitali and has a very good chance to beat Maskaev. He seems only interested in a belt(nothing wrong with that)at this time no matter how long he can hold onto it.If Peter for some reason is granted the fight with Maskaev, I have my doubts with all of this back and forth between Vitali, he may not give Vitali an imediate shot at his belt which may deter Vitali all together from returning. We can argue untill the cows come home on who deserves to fight who but that is not how the politics of the sport work.Until there is a clearcut way to go about it, nothing will please everyone.

No man, I think Peter would fight vitali immediately after. I don't think he's worried about either klit brother win or lose. The surest way we will see Peter fight vitali is for Peter to fight maskaev and beat him then fight vitali. No telling if vitali's body will hold up past the maskaev bout and if he beats maskaev and is injured afterward then Peter is in shambles again.

What is Vitali can't fight after he fights Maskaev?Vitali would give up the belt and Peter, in his position would more than likely receive the vacated title, right?Either way Peter wins.

Wow! You rode the small yellow bus back and forth to school didn't you? The reason they are making a counter offer is because they need a definitive date on when is the deadline gonna be (injury or not) that the winner fights Peter. The first contract had money and a guarantee that Peter fights the winner but then what if vitali does what he did to Rahman and postpone the fight a bunch of times. All they want are timelines genius.

Yeah that's why they're sending in a counter offer to determine how much he has to wait for his guaranteed shot.

No offence, but you could swap the names Vitali and Peter in that paragraph, and it would make no more or less sence.. Everything you just said could hold just as true for Vitali as it does Peter... Obviously both of them want Maskaev(the belt) first. The real issue is, WHY does Vitali want an immediate title shot? And I know about the emeritus title, it's just that he's the one coming off a long layoff due to injury... Peter has already technically won 2 elmininators for gods sake.. We all know he's fit and ready to go.. Vitalis a question mark at this point, I can't see why if he was serious about returning for a signifigant amount of time, he wouldn't take a tune up fight. The fact that he wants the title after inactivity, to me, suggests that he is the one more likely to vacate it after beating Maskaev. Think about it... If Peter didn't intend to hold the title, and defend it, then why wouldn't he have just taken the 2.5 million to step aside? You really think a Maskaev fight in itself is enough to make him pass that up?? Course not, especially since Vitali vs Maskaev would generate alot more money than Peter vs Maskaev.. I doubt Peter would make over 2.5 million to fight Oleg. Besides, if you think about it, should Peter get the fight and beat Maskaev, you just know Vitali will be his first mandatory...

That's exactly the thing I've been saying on other threads on thi s matter. There is something very fishy about this rush title shot for vitali. If you ask me, it's all about the klit brothers getting to hold world titles at the same time. Nothing more.

First of all you ask why does Vitali "want" an imediate title shot?He has the confidence of knowing he can beat Maskaev without one, it is that simple. He feels 100% ready to face him at this time, why go for a tune up fight when he could just as well be injured in that fight? If he was to beat Maskaev and be injury free he is not going to sit on the title, that is not what he does, he gave up his title and retired because he didn't think it was fair to keep postponing his fight with Rahman.Acording to the WBC rules Peter doesn't have a case at all and they shouldn't even be offering him step aside money.Rules are rules and Vitali has the right at this time to fight Maskaev, he doesn't need a tune up fight so it should be clear cut at this point, all Peter is doing is dicouraging Vitali from coming back at all.It would be best for boxing fans at this time to let Vitali fight Maskaev and then the winner to face Peter for the title.

BTW everybody, whether the Vitali or the Peter supporter, is so damn sure that either will
beat Maskaev... I have to admit that the chances are pretty good, but it would be foolish
to write Maskaev so easily off ...

You didn't present one new point, it's all the same stuff that could be said for either man. I ask you again though, If Peter didn't plan on defending the title after he beat Maskaev, why wouldn't he have taken the step aside money which would probably be more than his purse?? It just doesn't make sense. Wheras with Vitali, it makes perfect sense to suggest that he only wants Maskaev and the title so he can hold one with his brother.. Then whats to stop him from retiring again?? You say that's not what he does, well sorry but your going to need to convince me a little more then that. Because he's done it before.

Do you realize how something like this, if it happens, will set the tone for much more corruption in the sport real boxing fans love. MMA is supposed to be a distant second but things like this are driving fans away and giving UFC a chance to catch up and eventually pass boxing.
    why are they counter Offering?
They are trying to meke it impossible so vitali will have no choice but to wait his turn. If it was about the money, Peter would have taken that money already because that's alot of money to be passing on. You name another fighter who would turn down that much to sit and wait.
ok, let me ask this alittle slower.
    Why........Is...........Duva/King.......Counter.......Offering
to counter offer means, they say no to 2.5 mill and ask for more, and if they ask for more and WBC says yes, THEN that means "team peter" will step aside.
All they want are timelines genius.
let me answer ANOTHER ONE for you ok?
if he COUNTER OFFERS, its because he wants more money!
he would get an exact day in sept after the klits maskaev fight...
2.5 to stop cryin and 3 to fight the winner...
I GUARANTEE YOU, if a new agreement is settled on the 2.5 number will look alot different. That is the most important number to peter/duva/king....
    ready for a quote?
"Realistically, we'll consider all options, but for us to consider (stepping aside), it would have to be very, very lucrative"
meaning.MORE MONEY...yes an exact date would be established. but its about more money!

Default Re: Peter rejects step-aside offer!

Peter giving up that position as legitimate challenger, takes him out of the championship spot vs. Klitchko , and I would predict Peter would have little problem beating Maskeav . meaning he would be the Champion going into the Vitali Klitchko fight, that’s if Vitali would still be interested in coming out of retirement if Peter wins ! .. anyway Sam being champion gives him more leverage on the purse split going into that Klitchko fight.. 70 % champion - 30% challenger on average. that’s a huge difference in profits when you consider the amount of revenue a big fight like that would produce.. and we aint talking no measly 2.5 million dollar step aside money as compensation for the lucrative defending Champion status .. my advise is "Don't take the money Peter.". fuck Klitchko and company ! Peter paid a total of $100,000 in sanctioning fees already , which the WBC has gladly pocketed to earn the right to fight for the WBC title. Sam would be foolish to step aside.
