what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield

any 'good' version of tyson would of knocked a prime holyfeild out. im srry but if peopl like bert cooper can make him lose his feet then a good version of tyson could.

after prison tyson - we all saw what happened there.

tyson nearly put holy down in round 5, if he was prime he could have fought that roun 5 every round 10 times better

he didnt almost put holyfield down and holyfield was past his prime aswell thats what people seem to forget i praised tyson in this thread when i dont like him he was great fighter it depends really would holyfield fight smart or would he be silly and get lured into brawl which would be dangerous because tyson even in 1991 was still very good them body shots he landed on ruddock if he would of landed them on me i wouldnt have stomach left :P but like i say its pick em if holyfield fights smart he can win this if he gets lured into brawl like he did vs bowe 1 or with bert cooper i say tyson wins so its pick em

Holyfield could take better shots as he got older yes he stopped Tyson tko 11 in 1996 but he got away with alot of holding and spoiling had he stood toe to toe he would have been stopped but Holyfield could'nt have been that far past it he then beat Tyson dsq 3 in the famous ear biting fight then added the IBF to his WBA title by stopping Michael Moorer in 8.Then he had 2 good fights against Lennox in which some think he won the second one then had wins over Ruiz and Rahman

I like it, tysonbruno! 3 years spent in jail and away from active boxing would indicate being more past it IMO. And it took Holyfield 11 rounds to break down a Tyson who to be honest hadnt faced anybody in his comeback.

Erase 5 years and Tyson goes the distance and does a lot more against Holyfield

holyfield had heart problems and had looked garbage in fights with bowe 3rd one and moorer

tyson knocked out bruno in 3 rounds quicker than he did back in 1989 and bruno was having pretty good run tyson was knocking out everybody thats why no one thought holyfield had chance because he had looked garbage holyfield was older than tyson and im being fair here i am saying tyson was past it but so was holyfield

Bruno was having a good run when only good run he could have had is if he ran out of the ring from Tyson Tyson stopped Bruno in 3 because he were scared stiff and so were Seldon that were'nt enough for Tyson to be ready for Holyfield not after the prison sentance

no matter which way you look at it no one gave holyfield a chance because tyson looked damn impressive knocking everybody out and tyson didnt look that bad in holyfield fight just i dont think tyson expected holyfield to be that good and it shocked him then in later rounds he got broken up

That was then and this is now, and yet Holyfield maintained a very succesful career. Hindsight is always a very beneficial tool...

only thing after tyson fight was when he fought lewis he didnt really look that impressive but he gave lewis all he could handle in rematch after that he didnt do anything really holyfield looked his age in lewis fights even though he went full 12

if tyson got past douglas,which had he trained for it he should have easily dispatched of him in a few rounds,would of lost to evander! tyson was on the slide and just waiting to fall from grace.....but i feel he lost to douglas for a number of reasons- its to much detail to go in to but you all as boxing fans should no the answer to that question

I must be in the 1% of the world's population that does NOT think that Tyson's defeat by Douglas was due purely to Tyson's "slide from his prime." Geez, give Douglas some credit for heaven's sake.

I've watched the fight several times on ESPN Classic. Besides being a great fight, my impression of it was that Douglas fought not only the fight of his life..... but on that night, he would've probably KO'd anybody out. I mean, he fought perfectly. He used his big body to push Tyson around.... he threw perfectly timed combinations..... he moved well on his feet..... he was unafraid of the Tyson mystique. In short, the guy was AWESOME.

And yet, all people can talk about is how Tyson was going downhill already..... how he was hung over...... blah, blah, blah. Why can't we just admit that Douglas was the better man that night, and that Tyson did all he could given the circumstances? Ok, maybe he didn't bob and weave like the 1986 Tyson. But he wasn't exactly a sitting duck out there.

If I find anything confounding, it's how crappy Douglas looked immediately after that fight in his defeat at the hands of Holyfield. He looked like a damn amateur! I mean, talk about a guy "shooting his wad" for one damn fight. He was mediocre BEFORE the Tyson fight, and totally sucked out loud AFTER the Tyson fight. But for that one night, he looked damn near invincible. Credit where credit is due, people.

i must of watched a different fight than you...cause the one i watched saw tyson just standing infront of douglas not moving and getting hit like ive never seen and then not throwing back..................watch it again tyson looked sick or something.............thats what made tyson so good in the first place was his ability to continue throwing punches,very good work rate and not get hit............come on, tyson only threw about 13 punches per round,that is a good indication there was something wrong with him. the vintage tyson would throw 60 punches per round

His getting hit like you'd never seen MAY have had a little to do with Douglas' awesome fight plan that day. As for Tyson not throwing back... I'm not sure I agree. Again, he may not have been 1986 Tyson, but he wasn't just a punching bag, either. He did catch Douglas with a perfectly timed right uppercut that most humans would not have gotten up from.

Oh yeah... I saw that on another thread also. But Morrison wasn't exactly Tyson. He was exciting to watch, but suffered from the "glass jaw" syndrome (Tommy did).

You sound like one of those diehard Tyson fans who will not give Douglas the credit he deserves. Punching bag? Tyson would've beaten any of several other highly regarded heavyweights that night. Tyson was Tyson. Douglas was just the better man that night. Give him some respect.
