OK, ITV coverage takes us to Round 8:

Body shots from Smith. Polizzi throwing counters, straights and jabs. Smith trying to chase him down. Uppercut from Polizzi. Polizzi landing jabs and a hook. Hard jab from Smith, and an overhand right. Polizzi panicking a little, on the run, then ties Smith up. Jabs and a straight from Polizzi, Smith returns a jab of his own. Two hard body shots, and a third puts Polizzi down. Mickey Vann waves it off, and Paul SMith wins the WBU Middleweight belt.

He;s now 19-0 with 11 KOs, and he'll be back in the Contender series in March.

Derry Matthews v John Simpson - WBU Featherweight title.

Derry Matthews: (17-0, 9KOs) - Derry claimed the title with a 12 round comprehensive win over Stephen Foster, and is sure to be the favourite coming in. He's quick, and is a top prospect. Matthews hoping to stopSimpson, and will have a huge following in the first big fight involving a Liverpool fighter in the city for quite a while.

John Simpson: (14-4, 4 KOs) - Won the British Title last time out after Andy Morris was stopped on cuts, but his belt is not on the line tonight. Never been stopped but has two points defeats before winning the British title, and a points defeat against Matthews victim Foster.

Simpson gets an expected chorus of boos as he makes his entrance to the Prodigy's "Firestarter" Looks fairly confident, and after upsetting Andy Morris last time out, deserves to be. Matthews gets a rousing reception, and milks the fans. Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher (Soccer players) at ringside and cheering Matthews on. Simpson with a focussed stare straight ahead, and Matthews looks a little distracted by the huge reception. There's a judge called Karl Rogers.....from Spain?!?! Go figure...

    Round 1:

This cheering for Matthews is huge. It really sounds like a really noisy arena, and I'm sure they're both getting a buzz from it, but especially Derry. Matthews the taller, throwing the jabs to find the range. Good jab and straight right from Matthews. Simpson with a jab and a huge right catches Matthews off guard, and knocks Matthews down. 8 count for Matthews, and Simpson bhas worried Matthews. He's running a little more now. Vann gives them both a talking to and to avoid the 'naughties'. Simpson ducks under the high punches and then some body shots. Matthews with a solid left and stops Simpson. Simpson walks through a Matthes jab with two hard hooks to the body. Straight right from Matthews, and Simpson comes inside with more bodyy shots. Good left hook from Simpson. What a first round!

    10-8 Simpson

    Round 2:

Cagier start to this one. Simpson comes in, but Matthews slides and unloads a pair of hooks. Matthews looking to stay on the outside now, but the more compact Simpson looks to get in leading with a big jab covering his face. Matthews with a good left knocks Simpson back. Matthews connecting with jabs, but Simpson looks to counter, piles in with more body shots, ad Matthews clings on. Good body shots from Matthews. Matthews keeping Simpson at bay with the jab, and some straight shots too. Simpson comes in with more boy shots, and a nice left hook.

Matthews' round. 19-18 Simpson so far.

Yeah, could be a lot of pissed off drunk scousers out in L'pool tonight if this keeps up.

    Round 4:

Jabs from Matthews getting through. Simpson caught again on the way in, but is lunging jabs are working for him. Good left hook from Simpson, but Matthews replies with a right hand. Matthews is read the riot act for playing up, and a final warning before the point deduction. Simpson with a body shot. Matthews gets in with a jab straight combo. Simpson ducks under a jab, and body shots. Matthews with a jab, and a straight, and Simpson clings now. Good jab from Matthews, but Simpson replies with an overhand right. Jab from Simpson, and a right to the ribcage of Matthews. Matthews testing the range with the jab, then looking to hit with the right, but that was a tight round.

Tied for me, though a case could be made either way.

    Round 7:

Jabs from Matthews replied in kind. Good jab, right from Matthews. Matthews' pushing down showing, as the shorts of MAtthews are red from Simpson's blood. Great right from Simpson. Another jab right from Matthews, and he's slapping at the cut while they're clinching. Good body shots from Simpson, and Matthews with a jab and two straights. Good right from Matthews, wobble from Simpson as he clings on. Simpson goes to the corner for another look at the cut. Doctor called. Good right from Matthews, but big rights from Simpson. Matthews charging forward, and there's blood everywhere. They're both going in at each other with body shots and hooks. Simpson's cut is worsening, and the left side of his face is a red sheen.

Matthews pulls one back,67-65 to Simpson, but the cut might stop it in a round or two according to Mickey Vann.

Jab right from Simpson, but Matthews coming back with a jab. Good double jab right from Simpson, but two hooks back from Matthews. Body shot from Simpson, and it's all messy now.
