Maybe I'm alone here, but I didn't particularly enjoy this fight. I'm sure it was in large part due to the heat, but they both looked really sloppy for most of the fight. (like, every round past round 4)

I also didn't think it was particularly close and I don't for a second understand how Bell can think he was robbed and say (he really did say this) that he felt he won "every round of the fight." I thought he won 4 at most. He couldn't land a punch to save his life in there.

Also--while I was happy to have someone air the fight on TV--that was the worst commentating I've ever seen. The one guy had about 3 things to say ("he's completely exhausted, will he be able to get through the round?"; "Now he's getting a second wind"; "it looks like he's playing possum, but he may be really tired...I think he's playing a little possum"), which he kept repeating at various intervals when they were clearly wrong. And then that French guy just interjecting with total nonsense once or twice a round. And what was up with that terrible diagonal camera angle? Really made me appreciate HBO and Showtime. Even ESPN.

That was certainly one of the oddest fights I think I've ever witnessed. By the second half of the fight they both seemed to be reeling around the ring like a couple o' drunks! I mean I know it was St. Paddy's day n' all, but they looked like someone who'd had more than their fair share of guiness. Fair play to 'em though for going the full 12 rounds, I honestly thought one of them would drop from exhaustion way before then. What made it really bizarre for me was Bell's antics of pretending to be knackered and then trying to come on strong, problem was he really was gassed, just not quite as badly as he made out. Entertaining fight!

Bob Sheridan just might be the worst commentator ever. Especially if you watched the fight prior to Bell & Mormeck, Pons v. Conclaux. I have never heard a commentator praise a promoter for the fight card he put together, but Sheridan did it. And like a previous poster said, he repeated the same things over and over. The other thing I'd like to add was that Sheridan tended to have much more excitement in his voice than the action in the ring dictated. Bell would land a glancing blow or something and Sheridan started screaming like he'd been sent careening into the turnbuckle.

How can a venue hosting a major fight not be air-conditioned? The fight probably could have been a lot better and perhaps faired better for Bell had it not been sweltering. But the problem with that is neither fighter seemed to be sweating throughout the bout. I wonder if there was also a conditioning issue involved.

Bell seemed... perturbed before the opening bell. I wonder how much of it had to do with the issue in his training camp, I wonder if he was concerned with rematching Mormeck. Bell's chin was either iron or Mormeck doesn't have the kind of power he looks like he does.

At least the stage is set for the rubbermatch. And no more with France. Both fights had early rung bells and/or timeclock issues with FSN (I suspect it's the former). It doesn't have to be in America if Mormeck has issues, I'm sure Great Britain would love to host as well as Australia.

    Oops

a perfect example of open scoring killing the momentum of a fight. had Mormeck not know he was up 4 rounds, the action would have stayed high end. instead Mormeck turned and ran the remainder of the match , you can't blame him, but shit, NO MORE OPEN SCORING !

I don't know--it's not like those rounds were close. I don't think there would have been any question that he could sit on his ass the last couple rounds even without open scoring. Bell just didn't do anything. I'd like to see the punchstats, because it seemed like Mormeck outlanded Bell about 4-1 over the first 8 or 9 rounds.

That's not the fault of open scoring, that's the fault of the high temperature in the ring, Mormeck's conditioning and Bell's lack of ability to close the deal. The fight could have gone the same way as it did without open scoring and Mormeck would have ran just as much. He had nothing left and if he'd risked too much he might have gotten knocked down. Don't buy into the demonization of open scoring, 9 times out of 10 it's not going to change a fighter's plan.

And if anything, the open scoring added to the drama by making it all the more clear to Bell that he needed to get off his tired ass and throw bombs (granted they were all about 5x too slow to have any chance of landing).
