Would you mind listing the fighters between 130 and 147 pounds who would have been better than Floyd in 1985?
When I say 1985 I refer to it as an about so if you want to get technical we will say from 1980-1988---

He would not have out boxed Hecto Camacho,,,Camacho would have frustrated Floyd,,,Aaron Pryor would have Ko'd him...Leonard would have beat him,,Hearns,,Arguello,,Whitaker,,,need I go on.....Everey single one of them would wipe thier a** with Floyds resume
Floyd would beat Arguello and Camacho and Whitaker fight would be 50/50 but Pryor and Hearns would beat him though.
You obviously have little knowledge of a young prime Hector Camacho...or Arguello pre 140 lbs
More to do with you underrating Mayweather i see Arguello get outboxed by Pryor when he stuck and move and Pryor isn't master boxer like Mayweather and i've seen flaws in Arguello where Mayweather could beat him in other fights and Camacho was good fighter but not as skilled as Mayweather i mean Camacho got battered pillar to post by slow Chavez and also got basically shut out by Oscar im sorry he wouldn't beat Mayweather and i've seen quite a few of his fights.
The Hector Camacho who fought Chavez was not a prime Camacho....It was not the version of Camacho who wore the lightweight title...So by using Chavez as an example you answered the question on how much you know of Hector Camacho Sr....And the fact you used Chavez tells me what years of Camacho you have seen...The lightweight Version of Camacho was faster then Floyd Mayweather JR....Hit harder and had a mean streak...Since you seem to think your what is it 17 or 18 years in life makes you such an expert I'll let you explain why and in which fight Camacho turned from the agressive master boxer to the hit and run suspect...
Your a good poster ICB and you have a lot of boxing knowledge but it is all based on recent fighters and comparisons are often made using great fighters past their best days
For the most part, I agree. I'm not sure if he had enough power, but I think a young Camacho would have had a hell of a chance. The problem is that most people seem to remember him as he was later in his career and that just doesn't do him justice. Even worse, it seems that many choose to remember him as something of a clown.

I do think, however, that Mayweather is soon to be exposed for what he is. Personally, I think he has some great skills, but his best skill might be finding fighters who wont challenge his weaknesses. I think he's been padding his record for years. Who the hell has this guy ever fought to deserve such renown? If De La Hoya pulls this off, people will barely remember Mayweather 5-10 years from now. And certainly not as an all-time great.

One way or the other, many delusions will be broken with this one.

He's been P4P number 1 for a couple years now. No chance he isn't remembered.

Well, we'll see. He's got some skill, yes, there's no disputing that. But I think he has some weaknesses that have stayed hidden because of his competition, or lack thereof, and most of this p4p thing over the last couple years has been more hype than substance.

If he were to get beaten badly in this one, then wrap up his career in a mediocre fashion, people would look back on his career and see no special accomplishments. Even now, hell, the guys been a pro for a decade and who's the best fighter he's ever faced? Castillo. A very good fighter, certainly, but look down the list of Oscar's competition and there are at least a half dozen names that are far superior. There's just no comparison. Also, I laughed my ass off the other night when I heard him say he fights the best. He never even fought the best at super featherweight or lightweight, not to mention that he could have moved up and faced real competion a long time ago. Nope, he's been content just hanging out there at 135 racking up wins against nobody, then complaining that he wasn't getting any respect.

Suddenly he moves up in weight, fights some, in my opinion, very questionable competition, and suddenly he's #1 p4p. Come on. All hype.

I might be dead wrong, it wont be the first time, but I just don't see it. Maybe on the 5th I will. Here's what I see now.

    1) He's never fought anyone like Oscar, not in skill, power, or size. Not even close.
    2) Now he's moving up dramatically in quality, and he's doing it at 154. 154!!! Since he's moved up from 135, who has he fought with any real power? Zip. Now he's moving up to 154 and he's never even felt any real 140 or 147 power, with the possible exception of a couple time Zab stuck him. He's going to be shocked when he feels Oscar's power.

That's the way it is with hype. It can disappear quickly. If he loses this one badly and doesn't manage anything particularly impressive the rest of his career, he'll be remembered on some level, but not with the respect of an all-time great that he seems to have now.

I've felt for a long time that a strong aggressive fighter with decent boxing skills could take advantage of Floyd. Someone who was willing to walk through his stuff and just take it to him hard. Did you ever notice how he reacted when those little guys would pound on him a little? That's why I think a young Camacho definitely could have beaten him, not to mention most of the others who were mentioned. Anyway, that's how I see it. Soon enough, we'll all know.

He doesn't like it. He squirms, twists, turns. Eventually he covers up and runs. Some would see it as a form of defense. I suppose it is, but I've always sensed a certain panic in it. A desperation. Unfortunately he's never fought anyone who could keep it up or make it count. Not yet.

Mayweather will embarass De La Hoya. It's no good listing a group of fighters from 20 years ago who would possibly beat him. Mainly because it cannot be proven. It's not Mayweather's fault some of the fighters around today don't seem to compare with those of 20 years ago. You have to take into consideration the ease in which Maweather has beaten most opposition before deciding he would get battered by the champions of two decades ago. I'm not even a Mayweather fan, i'm a Hatton fan but you have to respect talent when you see, regardless of how much of a prat he acts.

Do you have direct examples of this?
As for "not liking it", does any fighter like getting hit with punches?
As for "covering up," isn't that what a fighter is supposed to do? Is he supposed to leave his hands down by his side and let his opponent take free shots?
I can't ever remember Floyd looking panicked or desparate in the ring. In fact, I'd say that's one of his biggest strengths, that he always looks relaxed and comfortable in the ring.

Of course no fighter likes getting hit, obviously that's not what I'm saying. I'm talking about his reaction in those situations, and of course something like that is very subjective. That's how I perceive him when he's faced with someone attacking and pressuring him. Examples? Look to his recent fight against Zab. Zab's best moments in that fight were when he was just attacking. I thought he dominated the first four rounds when he was able to do that effectively. Once he stopped attacking, it was over.

Floyd definitely prefers to stay in the middle of the ring, wear down his opponent, establish the distance, then pot shot him to death with superior conditioning, speed and accuracy (and an occasional elbow). If he's able to do that, he's lethal.

There has been no one he's faced that has the combination of strength and skill necessary to take him out of that mode for more than a moment here or there, but I do think it can be done, and I do think it can be done on the 5th.

Like I said, many questions will be answered. We'll know a lot more about both of these fighters after this one.

Floyd will NOT lose at 147 and down...period.Even Oscar at 154 wont beat him.I also don't see how his p4p status is even being questioned...he has been on the list for almost 10 years!!!

TKO6 - Mitchell (KO'd 6 times sparked in Rd3 by Kostya & Rd4 by Williams mmm... well done Floyd).

TKO8 - Bruseles (sparked in 3 by Ernesto Zavala mmm... well done Floyd)
UD - Corely (beaten 5 times sparked in Rd5 by Cotto mmm... well done Floyd).

I take into consideration what other people have done to his opponents. Floyd has done nothing defining since leaving 135. He may take his game to another level against Oscar but from what I have seen of him at 140 and 147 he has bitten off more than he can chew at 154.

Well said. I cannot question Floyd's tremendous skills...but i can definitely question the level of his opponents. It's hard to say if it's Floyd's fault or not that he has faced weak fighters in recent years...but his resume is underwhelming at best. Maybe that will change in the coming years.

IF his resume is that bad...name someone who he should have made his resume better...AND name an "A" fighter that they beat.I guess that rules out just about every welter except Mosley.

Its not neccessarily the names but the results. He won but he didn't do it in any better fashion than someone before him so how dose that make him so great? If he was great then...

He should have whooped Baldo so bad the ref stopped it.
    He should have stopped Judah.
He should have stopped Mitchell quicker than Kostya or at least Williams.
He should have stopped a worn out Gatti quicker than Oscar did 6 years ago.
He should have stopped Bruseles quicker than Zavala did.
He should of stopped Corely quicker than Cotto did.

He's won but he has done nothing to his opponents at Welterweight that someone hasn't done better.
