What is it with British fight fans?Originally Posted by Boxerharvey
I mean really
One of your guys pulls off a decision in his own back yard against somebody who's hurt, its Saint George reclaiming his empire
One of your guys gets KTFO out its everybodies fault but theirs
Floyd fought Rickies fight, plain and simple
He was just better at it
I have no problem with admitting that Mayweather was the better fighter and outclassed Hatton but the ref was still shit and was on Hattons case all night but let Mayweather get away with ducking, turning his back and excessive use of the elbow!! Even if it had gone 12 rounds Mayweather would still have won!!Originally Posted by Trainer Monkey

Maybe you should read what I said again. Cortez was shit, it didn't influence the fight in the end as Floyd was fucking amzing. Read it again...before you criticise.Originally Posted by Trainer Monkey

If your going to do blatant shit, make sure the ref doesnt see it.
Hopkins can take your legs away from you by hitting you on the thigh
Mayweather sneaks in them elbows
But they make sure the ref doesnt see it
Ricky was blatant and obvious
And last I checked you arent supposed to hold and hit behind the head, especially not on every single exchange, especially not to the ref's line of sight
What in the hell do you expect when you do that crap,a freaking lolly?
So Trainer, I assume you think Cortez did a shoddy job in the Castillo fight then?
Sellout no, determined not to let the fight end up the wrestlemania fiasco that was the Tszyu fight, yes. Plenty of us cried foul at that display, plenty of us said he wouldn't be allowed to get away with that in the US and he wasn't, plenty of you giggled and thought it was funny and all part of the game as long as Hatton won. In the end it hasn't done him any favours.
After the wrestling, holding/hitting died down so did Cortez's involvement. As for the point off, he did warn them that he would take a point for anything blatant, helping Floyd through the ropes and throwing a punch to the back of his head is blatant. Not an easy fight to ref.
I hate this when one person has an opinion on the fight then it must mean the whole of Britain thinks that way when thats totally untrue. Im Mayweather fan and i see nothing wrong with Cortez's refereeing.Originally Posted by Trainer Monkey
Oh I know its not you Ice,but the only cries of "foul" are from Brits, and its not even here, its everywhereOriginally Posted by Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker
You know damned well I cant stand Floyd for his mouth and his antics
But face the facts people,Joe Cortez had nothing to do with that fight,Hatton not having a plan B had everything to do with it
I see this as a two way opinion For instance just imagine that Cortez let Rick do his stuff and was on Mayweathers back for ducking to low, elbows, palm of the glove in face, and turning his back. Rick would have been able to get inside and really make a difference what if this went on to a win for Ricky are you honestly saying that we would not be reading the same comments from Floyd's fans today i don't think so, to use Cortez own words Firm but Fair can you all hand on heart say he was fair again i don't think so. Floyd's was clearly committing far more fouls i have mentioned 4 above, Rick was deducted a point for one foul that did not even happen. To add insult to injury he had the cheek to pose to the cameras with Floyd hanging off his neck.
Saying all that Floyd was a class above and showed it i still think he would have won but the ref was SH*t
Just wanted to shed a different light on this debate![]()
I didn't personally like the interference during the fight, but it was necessary for the first few rounds, however a few times he jumped in and stopped Ricky from working unneccessarily. I also thought PBF should have lost a point for use of the elbow. After round 5 he was spot on though, up to there, a bit over eager.
I have to say im more impressed by floyd after that fight nd have to say he was the better fighter plain nd simple although he did turn his back at times his blocking on the inside was great so i give him props for beating hatton, i think the only ww that will have a chance of beating him might be williams just cos of his size but if mayweather can stay inside against him we've seen the damage he can do.
After watching the first 3 rounds again, I have to say that Cortez should never referee a major fight again.
The point deduction in the 6th was stupid.
It had an impact, but Floyd won. Hatton was unable to deal with what was happening, and in the heat of the moment whats a fighter to do? Mayweather took it all in his stride.
i have to agree. There has to be a better standardization in the way refs handle a fight. I mean, look at the last 2 samuel peter fights, he got away with 2 knockdowns on klits because, and those were serious hits.
And the Barrera: Marquez fight. Clearly a knockdown.Originally Posted by Big_Deuce

I know that sounds bad, and I shouldnt say that. But Hatton, in his way, was in the fight and it became desperate and more so.
Hatton could have done that much better than he did, but Cortez didnt help one single iota.
