If I had to bet even up, I'd pick Joe, but this is a close fight and there are several factors favoring Hopkins:
Joe is moving up in weight
Joe is fighting in America the first time
Joe is a southpaw
Joe has the type of workrate that plays into Bernard's hands
But he also has some things going for him:
He's younger
He may have a speed advantage
He may have a strength advantage
He definitely can fight the full 12 rounds at a pace Hopkins will have trouble matching
This is why I don't usually bet on fighters I am emotionally invested in, because I tend to overlook all the facts. I did bet Floyd vs. Hatton, on Floyd, just because I thought the odds were way out of whack, Floyd should've been a much heavier favorite.
May?
2/1 on for Calzaghe would be a STEAL if the fight was in Britain.
I agree though.. Joe is a dodgy bet considering the circumstances. It's very possible he could win but lose.
