    Default Euro '08

Okay, while I am not as psyched for this as I usually am for major football tournaments, I think it would be appropriate with a proper thread anyway. I might as well start it.

Who do you guys support? Who do you fancy as winners? Predictions anyone?

I'll start: For reasons that I do not know, I kinda think Spain will end up winning. I know I will probably look embarrassed once Spain manages to embarras themselves in a major tournament once again, but I have the feeling anyway. I am btw going to Spain next week, so I hope they will do well.

As for supporting, I am somewhat torn up. I hate to say it, but Sweden gotta be up there. I'd never thought, I'd live to see the day that would happen, but during the last WC I ended up cheering Italy and Germany (probably my all time most hated teams until that championships). Might do that again Switzerland, I could support if they were not so godawful defensive minded. Russia, well, I'd like them to surprise at least and Hiddink is about as great as they come.

Here's to a good championship at least!

Its as wide blown apart a tournament as i can remember! Im not even going to bother backing anyone to be honest! Although would like Spain todo well to make a change in the trend!

    Default European Cmapionship 2008

My bets are on Spain to fianlly win it with Torres, Villa up front Fabregas, Alonso, Xavi and Cassilas in goal they have the quality and style to do it.

At every big tournament Spain are like England, a slow-motion car crash waiting to happen.

I just cannot help quote this post, while also pointing out that I came out saying Spain before the tournament began...

I absolutely loved them last night. The show they put on in the second half was just about the best, I've seen in a long time. One holding midfielder and four offensive midfielders, all small guys with an impeccable technique - well, never actually losing the ball can be one hell of a way of organising defense, I guess. Before the last five minutes, did Russia have _anything_ on the Spanish half that could be worth mentioning? Add three beautiful goals, great team play and incredible individual vision (like Fabregas for the second goal) and it is hard for a football aficianado to wish for more.

I'll be delighted to be wrong. I don't care who wins so long as the Germans don't.

However. Before the Spain-Russia semi final I was going to post that one team will play the other off the park, look outstanding and a certain winner in the final, then play absolutely rubbish in the final and hand it to the Germans. So I hope I'm doubly wrong.

I know you would take it with a smile - funny thing is, I'd normally agree with you

This time Zab Judah has made it into the final round though, let's see if he can keep the calm. Is Baldomir, slow, plodding and semi-boring and with just about no fans outside his own family, actually a good metaphor for Germany?

    [I too hope you're doubly wrong ]

It was Klose, but yeah. The game is actually pretty decent - good chances in both ends, acceptable tempo etc.

Completely missed both games yesterday and only caught various bits of Austria-Croatia. Neither team looked that good from what I saw, but Croatia might have the team to surprise. Jusk ask England.
