I'd have Marquez favourite as well, but there isn't another remotely winnable fight out there for him without going ridicilously down the pecking order. His natural size would give him an advantage over JM that he simply wouldn't have against any noteworthy 140er.

HTH: Juan Diaz is an awsome power puncher, are you sure?
Hatton should take a top 20 guy but not a top 10 first to see how he copes with it. IF he doesn't get killed or punched too much, then he could think about a real farewell against something higher but it is stupid to risk anything more than that for the moment.

IMO JMM is the most winnable fight out there for him which would give him actual kudos (though again skewed cos the guy is considerably smaller, yet fits right in with Hattons misunderstanding of the p4p system.). JMM did NOT carry his speed and power up the weight and would prob be munched by Cotto, as wopuld Hatton.
Yes they were. Both guys were considered the best in their weight-class at the time or the best after Marquez. I think that counts as elite. Marquez may have chased Pacquiao, but he suited the weight fine & was pretty ripped at it. 140 is his usual fight night weight & I think at that he has enough speed & power to beat most of the the Top 10 at Light-Welterweight.

JMM is one of my favorite fighters but Joel Casamayor, was considered to be on the slide by many boxing fans. He got a gift off Santa Cruz, and scored a lucky KO against the one dimensional Michael Katsidis. Plus he hadn't been terribly active after the 3rd Diego Corrales fight.

As for Juan Diaz i agree he was considered one of the top Lightweights, at that time although he had lost some of his aura after being beaten by Nate Campbell. He did comeback with a dominant points win over Michael Katsidis.

Casamayor was the lineal lightweight champ when Marquez beat him. He may have been past his best but he was still THE man
    3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.

I'm talking more p4p, as Ice said you'd have to consider Cruz and Kats borderline elite after Casa then where does it stop? My point is that JMM is superior to both guys he fought, but they were tougher fights BECAUSE of their size.

I have no problems with Hatton coming back, but his condition is just horrible right now and it will be his longest break from boxing yet. I would much rather he had a tune up and continued for another top fight based on that showing.

He's a great guy, and i want to see him do well. But rapidly going up and down in weight in between fights is not good for anyone. He doesn't see the punches coming anymore, the reactions are slower. Sadly however, his heart is still as strong as ever, and he could fancy another battle.
