re: TM
He didn't train anyone, including his wife. Atleast he never stepped in or worked a corner with her in it. She trained elsewhere and with others near as I can recall. He made reference to being a match maker often and being on the ph all day. About traveling all over the world and how a boxer should eat when traveling. This amounted to greasy burger joints and Denny's "Cuz the road is a rough place and that is all you can afford, and if you were making the deals all day like me and knew the buis, you'd understand."
The nearest I can tell is that he knows a few people in the neighborhood who compete in the WV RoughNRowdy tough man contest, because his wife won one of them, and claimed to have them as fighters, and in such a way you couldn't ever nail him down to exactly who and where. But you can be sure their diets consisted of cheesy fries and pogo sticks...
I do know he trained Kid Thunder by the ph and e-mail, after me asking if he could give Andrew some help and keep him off the main boards after embarassing himself (Andrew) and being attacted in response to his many ridiculous assertions. So I feel a bit bad about getting that in play, but also couldn't see the harm in maybe Andrew getting a bit more fit no matter how nuts the person doing the helping was.
Then came the Mack fight, to which TM sent a PM (haha that sounds awesome TM, PM) to Mack's manager, and all of a sudden he was apparantly writing the game plan for Yusef's big match...flying so far under the radar that even Yusef and Mack's trainer John Tandy weren't aware of it.
Then came the fix. The big fight in where his wife fought some chic who by all acounts pummeled her, only to have TM suggesting it was all fixed, everything from them (the Mayweathers) stealing his corner mans credentials so he couldn't make the trip, to the judges, the matches makers and even people of that island where it was... all of them ofc in on it against...well, him.
And for all this (and much more), we eternally miss TM, aka Trainer Monkey...the most colorful person ever to grace the pages of Saddos. Or how once put by Bilbo..."the craziest backwoods hillbilly ever to hang a bag in a shed."

compared to guys like merkin not a hell of a lot
Now theres someone who knows this sport inside out
one dangerous horrible bloke
I don't mind admiting that I'm one of the least knowledgeable posters on here. I've always had a passing interest in Boxing as it's in the family but never really followed it like I did football. I just used big fights as an excuse to go away somewhere cool like Vegas etc. Then as my interest in cars & car Forums (Supras) declined I started spending more time on this board.
Since then I've become quite an avid fan. I go to plenty of live boxing (got tix for the upcoming Haye bout) and watch as much as I can on TV. Like Youngblood I barely knew who Pac and PBF were when I first joined. It took me months just to figure out who people were on about when the said 'PBF'
Just from spending time on this board and not having a clue what people are arguing about has inspired me to go down the gym. I'm 30 years old and have no illusions of what I can achieve but figured learning to box would at the very least give me a better understanding of the sport I now love (and help with the ever expanding waistline).
It's this very forum that has fuelled my interest in a sport I previously didn't really care for...

I like to keep up with the current champs. I also have favorite fighters whom I know may never win a world title.I watch about 6 fights a week. I know NO boxers personally.
Boxrec is a great resourse, and I think a bigger fool would not use it. I think 70% of my knowledge is from fights I've seen. Only fight I've ever been to was Gatti/Gomez... rather disappointing for my hero only to follow tragedy (RIP).
My first memories are Tyson/Douglas, but at the time I didn't realize what I was watching.. the biggest upset in history. I used to watch Foreman in his comeback with my dad. My dad was an Olympic power lifter, and a lot of his close friends boxed. (he's 82 now) He planted the seed a long time ago when I still thought that team sports would take over the world.
The first fight that got me hooked was (oddly enough) Gatti/Mayweather. Even though Mayweather is not one of my favorite fighters, my bro and I got it and I could not believe the hailstorm Gatti walked through... only to get KTFO. Well... it was inspiring anyway! Except I could not figure out why Mayweather was crying at the end (again). And I hated his ostrich trunks. And I hated that he was carried out by 4 guys dressed as Roman soldiers... Guess, I just don't like Mayweather, really.
"Floyd needs to inject Xylocaine into his balls to gain the courage to fight Pacquiao."
- and I quote from some random guy on the internet
I've been watching since I was a youngster.
I can debate with people my age but the old folk usually throw out some ridiculous name that auotmatically makes them the winner simply because I have never heard of this off-the-wall person.
The problem is you only really "know" what has taken place within your lifetime. The rest of it you are getting second or thrid hand anyway.
Most of it boils down to a persons ability to reason. A smart man knows how to apply commen sense to just about any topic.
Urango slow. Urango want small ring when Urango fight.
Mayweather fast. Mayweather want big ring when Mayweather fight.
My friend's call me an encyclopedia of boxing history when they had a question. But when I came here about recent boxing news I was a novice. To tell you the truth about 85 percent of my picks for weekly fights are guesses because I just don't know who these people are. On the other hand I could tell you that Jimmy McLarnin and Barney Ross had three great fight's in the mid thirties with confidence and know that McLarnin beat Ross 2 out of the three times. Other fighter's like Battling Nelson fighting Joe Gans in lost the first fight by DQ but later came back and stopped him in later fight's in the 17th and 21st round.
I've been in and out of gyms since I was 17 I am now 26 and had quite a few gym wars. I've had sparring sessions with Tim Witherspoon to help me get prepared for a fight as well as Tim Jr and Chazz. I've met countless fighter's in my short time but could only talk to a few fighters personally. Like the Witherspoon's or even now Mike Jones. That about does it.
First fight I went to was 37 years ago .
I was just out of primary school and went with my dad. There was betting in the asiles and heavy smoking all around and all sorts of shit going on in and out of the ring, money flying everyhwere between people. It was fought in a large tin covered shed called festival hall. Nearly everyone dressed in black trousers and white or blue shirts in those days for some reason. If the fight was a good one everyone used to pelt coins into the ring after the fight and the corner men would scamble around and collect it for the fighters.
First fight I had was when I was about 10 a guy at school kept callingme stuff but wouldnt fight me cause he recons he would only fight "in a ring" so my mate jumped the fence went home and bought a rope back and tied it around four trees, the other nasty kids goaded us in there, the kids dad came to my house later that night and complained i beat his kid and my dad basically told him to fuk off.
The Old pro fighters I hung around with when watching fights until 4 years ago are both dead now one a carnival fighter from Queensland Roy Geary and the other a pro from Bendigo with 20 odd fights at featherweight we used to sit up in the bleeches all scoreing our own cards and pick fights apart.
I havent boxed western style but did Wing Chun, judo and zen do kai for many years. Boxing is a better art for the spectator though and we usually go to see the big fights in the City when they come on mainly Kostyas and Solimans in the past.
I dont follow the sport like you guys do anymore, its too much info for me to take in and retain these days. All the empty spacein my head Im now attempting to fill with peace love and light not info.
I do love the physiology and phycology behind whats makes all fighters different though and love watching them for natural reactions in the ring that lead to winning moves. The octagon has my interest as much as the ring these days but Im picky on who I'll watch in both as i usually only hunt down a fight and watch if I hear it was a good fight from you guys, thank you.
My very first memories of boxing were when I was 6 years old, I remember watching Hagler smash Alan Minter to pieces on T.V. Then after that I guess it was Hagler again 3 years later doing pretty much the same thing to Tony Sibson. My Mam liked boxing back then I guess, hence the reason I saw these fights live. Honeyghan v Curry, Bumphus then Blocker and Starling I also remember watching live on T.V.
It wasnt until I was maybe 12 or so when I got my first Boxing VHS tape which was called Champions Forever. I must have watched that 100 times, and was fascinated by Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes and Norton.
Then Tyson came along and I was hooked. My favourite fighters during my teens were Micheal Nunn, Jorge Paez ( I remember a fight when he had a Batman emblem shaved into his head ), Meldrick Taylor, James Toney, RJJ and Oscar. I remember shedding a tear the night Chavez lost his first fight to Frankie Randall, I even remember where I was that day. I was boxing obsessed at this time, but this was way before the internet in my world.
There was a time that I could tell you every champion from every division, but I certainly couldnt do that now. I also subscribed to that monthly magazine that came with a free boxing video and pretty much owned the lot. That gave me an insight into all the fighters before my time. Sugar Ray Robinson, Walcott, Marciano, Tunney, Johnson, everyone really.
The Fab Four VHS tape was another of my favourites giving me all I needed to know about Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran.
The birth of the net saw me download pretty much every major fight in history, I became an anorak and had to see the likes of Salvador Sanchez, Wilfredo Gomez, Aaron Pryor and the magnifcent Arguello to name but a very few.
I remember shedding my first boxing tear when Benn lost to Watson, I was a huge Nigel Benn fan. The same went for Tyson v Douglas, but I had to listen to that on the radio at stupid o'clock in the morning. I remember waking up the next day thinking my world had ended, and a myth shattered.
I seem to know at times alot more than I actually think, mainly due to the fact I dont follow boxing as religiously as I once did. I will never miss a Marquee fight but I no longer make sure I watch every domestic fight I can, like I once did. There is still nothing that sends a shiver down my spine like the atmosphere of a big fight, and I dont think anything ever will.
I've followed Roy, Oscar and Hatton from the very early days, and they have always been my top 3 fighters, more so Ricky, as thanks to Saddo I became someone he calls a friend.
I feel at times though that I'm at the end of a special era, boxing for the most part, unless it's a big fight doesnt get me as excited as it once did. For me, there doesnt seem to be many fighters out there coming through that get me excited like they once was.
Juan Manuel Lopez is someone I really like the look of, and Gamboa last time out was the first time I'd caught him, and he looks impressive, but it's early days yet.
I have become a huge fan of MMA, and watch everything related to this sport. UFC, Strikeforce, Dream and the WEC, I never miss a show. MMA is something that I've come to really appreciate over the years. At one time, due to my intense boxing background, I hated watching the ground game and preferred the striking only fights. Now it's the opposite, and I love JiuJitsu, especially now I understand the technical side of it. And I've started training it myself. I've done some boxing before on various occasions, but only for fitness, I was never really any good.
I've always been very good though at picking fights, but never bet. I dont know why, I could have made some serious money, for the most part usually getting within a few rounds if a KO or picking the decision correctly for the most part. Probably less so now, as like I say, my current knowledge isnt anywhere near as up to date as it used to be. Although there is very little I dont know about MMA as I follow this like I used to follow boxing. Boxing will always be my first love, but MMA is a very close second these days.
I have met plenty of professional boxers over the years, and never really met an arsehole, although Eamon Magee was a bit of a prick. I've been to countless live events over years and loved every one. I've read many books over years, usually boxing autobiographys or anything by Thomas Hauser. I have written alot of boxing articles myself over the years, and obviously learnt alot through research for them. I have been here and known Saddo as a friend since day one.
Now I'm boring myself so I'll stop there ........

Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.
Good stuff from all you Gents....Thanks for the replies and Honesty....I was not trying to see who knows more then anyone else...Never was trying to say if you got info from the internet or Boxrec, magazines etc it means you did not know enough about boxing or it was the wrong way to get info...I mean hell if that was the case NOONE would know anything about Boxing or anything else for that matter that existed before they were born.....
Was more or less just seeing how this knowledge came about.....I really don't think anyone who post here is the type that keeps boxrec or wikipedia open in a seperate tab so when debating they can look up the info and seem as if they know everything...I mean for anyone to say they or act as if they know everything is just plain ass obnoxious....I was reading an article on Yahoo abt Freddie Roach turning 50 and somewhere in there he mentioned he is still learning so if a guy Like Roach is still learning i know I certainly don't know a 10th of what Freddie does.......Though it would be nice to have the knowledge he does and make his type of money
So again thanks for all the replies I was actually surprised so many people did reply to the thread and Sorry to anyone who might have been offened or thought this was a thread to try and act as if I was a know it all...
Rep to those I didn't later...I gave out too much in 24
You are my FNF news source!!!!....The Cable guide never tells who is on FNF and
I am usually too lazy to look it up and since you give the line up every week I usually just log on to see what you posed for the weeks fights....
You had a thread up recently that gave us the month of March.....Some cracking bouts so I know it is worth watching till April.....
Boxing is a fucking hobby, obsession, whatever. Call it what you want. I watch as much as I can. Any weight class. Any language. I boxed some, met some pros and attended fights live. I know a lot about the sport. But there is also a lot of the sport I don't know
Im 16 and started following boxing in 2000 so i dont know alot about the glory years, but i have seen many of the old greats fights! I read the papers when i can to see the news on boxing. I look at the internet for updates on fighters, fights, and what not. I have boxed for around 3 years now so i do know a bit about doing the sport. I watch boxing when ever its on wether it be a stream or on tv ill be watching it, i love the sport......and that is all![]()
