I don't think taking a beating for 12 rounds is anything to be proud of to be honest.
I think people really are too into the "you never got me down Ray" mentality because everyone wants to be a warrior.
A warrior is a warrior because they can be nothing else, even Arturo Gatti once he learned how to box tried not to take punishment in his fights. Some fighters would like to have a brain left when their career is done and be able to play with their children whilst not being punch drunk or having brain damage.
Sure taking a beating for 12 rounds may prove you're a "warrior" to a bunch of fans who ultimately do nothing for your life but fill your pockets and once the fight is over so are they. And when you are in your mid 40s but can barely do anything or barely talk right or are punch drunk the only thing those fans are good for is talking about how sorry they are at how your life turned out because you were a true "warrior".
So getting starched in one and getting critisized is better in the long run then taking a beating for 12 rounds ending up punch drunk but hey at least people will still call you a 'warrior'
Honestly, I think the whole warrior thing is overrated.
if you don't believe me ask Gerald McClennan, or ask Billy Collins' or Leavander Johnston's parents rather they'd wished their child was knocked out by one punch in the first round rather then taking a beating for 12 rounds and had they been knocked out in one round as opposed to the other maybe you'd be able to ask them yourself.
