May i start off by saying i hate ICB and nameless from the very pit of my very angry stomach and will take my revenge on both of them when i decide to pounce.
I write this as i have received many requests for me to explain my thoughts on the fight itself. This isnt a biased review of the fight, as i have explained many MANY times i find carl froch to be a somewhat of an arrogant twat and i dislike mikkel kessler for being foreign. This is pretty much what i saw and have since seen over and over again since the fight took place and im sure theres a good few people that will think im completely right.
At the time of the fight i was at my great mate grahams house to watch the fight due to the fact he had booked it on primetime and i was way too tight to pay the £15 needed to watch it at home. I was surprisingly sober at the time due to feeling the need to sober up while out because i assumed the fight would be shown at silly o`clock on US tv and only got told at 9pm that the card had already started me and graham rushed back to his house which was quite fine as it had been another very uneventful evening for catching poontang.
round 1-tentative start from both guys, both guys feeling eachother out as you would say. Froch goes to the body early doors and kessler tends to concentrate on finding any openings that arent there. For the most part of the round froch is the guy looking to sense an opening and kessler seems on the defensive. Froch trys to land bombs but gets nowhere
end of round 1:
Froch: 10
Kessler: 9 = 10-9 froch
round 2-finally things actually gets going. Kessler decides its time to fight on the front foot and froch obliges by allowing the space to close up. Kessler trys to desperately take the initative but every time is frustrated by frochs counters and the fact he is landing the far heavier punches. Kessler trys to smother frochs work and carl simply uses that to his advantage picking kessler off when he gets the chance.
end of round 2:
Froch: 10
Kessler: 9 = 20-18 froch
round 3 - frochs most dominant of the 3rounds. Kessler ups his work rate, carl just uses what god gave him and comes back at him with faster, harder counter punching. The fans are getting more and more into this fight as it goes on, the opening exchanges are dull but finally the 2 fighters are deciding its time to go to work. Kessler takes some hard exchanges towards the end of round 3 and froch realises he has him in a trance. You can clearly hear frochs girlfriend rachael something shouting for carl as they are the only brits in the crowd it appears. Its at this point that i head to the fridge to get me and my great mate graham another beer because all of this is making us thirsty.
end of round 3:
Froch: 10
Kessler: 9 = 30-27 froch
round 4 - its as if as each round goes by the 2 guys decide its time to get working. Kessler again ups his tempo and froch counters that with superior counter punching. Excellent work from froch who has his opponents number every time they come forward. At one stage froch has the confidence to start potshotting his opponent and even raises his fist to the fans to indicate he is in control of the fight. Kessler finally begins to land some big overhand rights towards the end of the round and the opinion is that he is finally growing in confidence.
end of round 4:
Froch: 10
Kessler: 9 = 40-36 froch
round 5 - the round of the fight and what i assumed would be the deciding factor in it. Kessler comes out much more aggresive than previous and froch matches him on the backfoot again. Kessler gets beat to the punch every single time and appears to become frustrated with the fact he is being heavily beat and resorts to trying to wrestle carl into making a mistake. Midway through the round froch lands a counter that sends kessler to the floor in a heap, only hang on.........the biased ref has ruled this a slip, a punch lands clean on the face, the fighter goes over.......its a slip?? at this point many of us begin questioning is this a showtime screwjob. Think about it only 1 man has a 100% record, all the fighters that have fought in their hometowns have won and it makes for a hell of a lot better viewing having a wide open tournament than one that is dominated by one particular fighter (carl froch)
end of round 5:
Froch: 10
Kessler: 8 = 50-44 froch
round 6 - Kesslers back. Its as if a different man has entered the ring (another conspiracy that he could at any stage been secretly given a performance enhancing drug, why is he so entent on suddenly drinking from his waterbottle more and more?). Dominates with that amazing jab of his and suddenly froch is getting beat to the punch all of a sudden, makes light work of carls desperate attempts to wrestle his opponent and takes the round at ease.
end of round 6:
Froch: 9
Kessler: 10 = 59-54 froch
round 7 - Kessler senses a turn in the fight and just like 6 has realised its now much more better to put the pressure on and take the fight to his opponent. Froch seems relaxed, too relaxed. Kessler is once again landing his overhand right freely and froch seems disoriantated and struggling to find an answer to kesslers aggression, though he is landing very little in power punches its clear to see that mikkel has upped his game and froch is struggling to deal with the pace thats been laid out.
end of round 7:
froch: 9
kessler: 10 = 68-64 froch
