I think most people are missing the point here. Yeah the guy hes fighting is shit, but with all the big fights not possible at this time hes just going for the easy victory which he can get through without injury or any other problems so he'll be well prepared for Woods, Johnson ect... when the time comes. The opponent is shit, thats the point!

As for people who say he should fight one of the better known and more worthy contenders, whats the point? Hes beaten any contender who's challenged his title for nearly 9 years. If he wins its expected - hes still got to fight the big names, whereas if he inconcievably loses thats royally fucked everything up. On top of that he could get injured again which would also mess up his plans.

This is simply a fight to win easily and get out of the way while maintaining his health and waiting for the big fights to come available early next year.

If he wanted an easy fight he could have fought Spina or Green, hell even the guy who knocked out Yusef Macke would have been "easy" but this is a 1 cent hooker if we're talking about easy that Joe's fighting!!!

I just like it when heroes in boxing retire one fight too early, rather than too late... Unfortunately that happens rarely
I can only rember some of them

If he does try and come back down for a SMW fight next summer, he could be going in undefeated, but without any titles because he's had to vacate them both for the bigger money fight.
The mandatories and the belts should be a non-issue. Everyone knows JC is the man at SMW--and at this late stage in his career, he's fighting for legacy, not for alphabet straps. I'm sure you agree (and that history will too) that a fight against the Kessler/Beyer winner for no belts/alphabet title would be far more important and meaningful than a "title fight" against a no-name bum like Stieglitz.
Agreed. What I was really concerned about was that there was/is a behind closed doors deal with Stieglitz's people for him to get a shot down the line. Which is complete and utter b/s if it happens, cause no one's gonna look back in 20 years and say. 'Look, he's got Stieglitz on his record, he must be a great'.

This is the bullshit that I can't stand from fighters...they say they are the best and yet SELDOM challenege themseleves to achieve more. Joe is going to retire soon and we'll never say he handled anyone and everyone....he beat an OLD Chris Eubank and a YOUNG Jeff Lacy he never fought anyone in their prime and never beat anyone near their prime!

It ain't like the fights are not there to be made...Green, Kessler, Johnson, Tarver, Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr., Jermain Taylor, Chad Dawson....Clinton Woods. Joe has all the choices in the world and he choses this f*****...it's a damn shame
Why won't he fight in America.....Maybe he saw hHattons fight against Collazo and Realized it's a different game all together here
It's a square shaped canvas with Turnbuckles in the corners surrounded by ropes.

You enter it and fight you're opponent under the Queensberry rules.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah but all the big names and money are here.....

That's not my point though... Daxx is saying that after watching Ricky Hatton coming to America and being out boxed and receiving a win from what should of been a draw that Calzaghe won't come to America...

Coming to America had nothing to do with Hatton's performance, fact is his camp did a bad job of brining him up in weight and his strategist did an even worse job in thinking he could out maul some one naturally 2 stones heavier than him.

Who cares where the ring was?
Yes adam but the ref didnt let hatton fight his usual fight. Hatton usually gets in close, holds and wrestles quite a bit. The ref didnt allow this. But anyway back to calzaghe. If calzaghe were to retire then the only thing he could say is that he beat an old eubank and one good fighter in lacy. Hmm not many big fights in his career, played it pretty safe and now hes fighting bika...i will be cheering on bika but we all know this is well beyond a joke.

Personally I'd like him to shut up Froch, but I don't know if he's still injured, he broke his thunb against Magee.
Shutting up Froch!?! Hmmm.... I'd be able to forgive Calzaghe (or anybody) for a lot of things if he could do that. I'm just not sure anything short of murder will solve the problem.
Probably if Froch was treated in the same way as Lacy was against Calzaghe, he'd still come out saying that he won the fight and that he's the greatest fighter of all time.

I don't think we will ever see Joe in a super fight.. he will get injured again before he meets Kessler, Beyer, Taylor or Wright. What a watse of talent

Thats the problem with good promoters... they ain't no good for the fans...

still very questionable whether lacy is a "good fighter"

    Great point. CC

I think over the years Joe has put too much trust in FW to select his opponents. But has he done a bad job?

I'd guess only in the eyes of boxing junkies.

I'll wait and see, and this fight is not the be all and end all of everything for Calzaghe, and probably will be better for him considering he's returning from an injury which has kept him out for four months, but I am a doubting Thomas, and want to see those massive superfights being made, and the key for me is that he has stated he only has three fights left. After this, will two super-fights, however exciting, e enough to cement his legacy as a legend? time will tell....

Was there ever any doubt that Calzaghe was going to fight a near no namer? Afterall thats mostly what he's been doin his entire career. Aside from an OLD Eubank, OLD Charles Brewer, OLD Byron Mitchell, and Jeff Lacy. Who has he beaten? Mostly unknown European competition, and he hasn't always dominated them either. It's not like he will never fight another super fight, I'm sure he will. One of my favorite fighters, Bernard Hopkins, did the same thing after destroying Tito Trinidad. He came back and fought a soft mandatory. So Calzaghes behavior is excusable but still disapointing. I say he's hopin Woods will beat Glen Johnson, because Johnson will pound Calzaghe's ass IMO.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
