Oh yeah... I saw that on another thread also. But Morrison wasn't exactly Tyson. He was exciting to watch, but suffered from the "glass jaw" syndrome (Tommy did).
yea fair point mate morrison was no tyson but that was massive upset considering bentt was unknown and morrison had not long beaten foreman i remember that fight i remember watching it and being so shocked i was jumping around i couldnt beleive it i was only 4 but my dad was telling me watch how morrison will blow through this guy it was such a shock and i didnt even know about boxing then but the fight that really got me into boxing was tyson vs holyfield 1

You're right... Morrison had the big name, and scary KO power. Had it not been for his questionable chin, and then the HIV diagnosis, who knows how far he could've gone. Huge upset by Bentt for sure.

You sound like one of those diehard Tyson fans who will not give Douglas the credit he deserves. Punching bag? Tyson would've beaten any of several other highly regarded heavyweights that night. Tyson was Tyson. Douglas was just the better man that night. Give him some respect.
im no die hard, delusional tyson fan...please dont label me as one....didnt you read my last post i said douglas put on one of the greatest performances of al;l time but i will never give him respect he dosent deserve it.
respect him for what, taking a dive against evander or for getting koed by tucker when he was winning every round up until the ko?

No, I meant respect for that one wonderful boxing and fighting exhibition he put on against Tyson. And no... I still insist that Tyson was not a "punching bag", as you put it. A punching bag would not have gone 10 rounds with Douglas that night. Point is: it was more Douglas being damn good than Tyson being bad that night.

What Douglas did before and after the Tyson fight deserves no respect at all.

ok seeing you put it that way i will give douglas his dues but i still maintain the fact that if tyson stayed with rooney he would never have lost his title to the likes of a buster douglas!

You may be right on that one. Tyson with the right coaching and the right motivation (and the right people around him to guide him through his personal problems), would've been an awesome force for more years than his actual very short peak.

....once speed and headmovement faded he'd have been just as he was in real life.

Cus D'Mato's style was great for young fighters but it didn't carry long at all....look at Floyd Patterson, Buster Mathis, etc.

The head movement and combos really fade at a certain age.

Yeah, it's just hard to keep that style up....and if fighters bully you back or even tie you up on the inside you're done for.

And you look at when Tyson went bad you'll see 2 prominent things

    #1 The head stops moving

#2 Tyson stopped punching on the inside

When the head stops moving you're easier to hit and when you stop working on the inside it's harder to hit your opponent

I prefer the Joe frazier , Marciano style.. you can carry that with you a bit better with age, still able to fire , and can block well with your arms , and fire off real good on the counter , don't waste as much enregy as in the bob and weave style of Cuz. especially when your a short heavy framed fighter .

....if possible I prefer the Manny Steward/Lennox Lewis style, being old might slow you down but being tall, lanky, and having power carries a LONG time.

Had George Foreman been brought up with that style he would have been champ from Ali on til Lewis came along.

Good point but I disagree. Lennox success was not solely due to his style, but also that fact that he's blessed with being one of the few athletes in boxing to maintain his skills for so late into his career, like Hopkins. That, is purely genetic, and so it would be no guarantee that Big George would remain so agile so late into his career as well, because Manny Stewarts style is heavily influenced by agility. You can't just be some stationary battlestation with a long reach and good power and still win every fight. People tend to forget that Lennox could move very well for a big man.

Agreed...Tyson became one of those guys who became to wrapped up in ghis own press clippings...He actually believed that his power was enough alone and became a head hunter.......

Tyson was never a 1 punch knockout artise he was a guy who had great power but is combos are what made it so devestating......If you look at his record he never easily disposed of a great fighter...Some good ones yes but never a great one

Lennox's athletism had a lot to do with his success but George was athletic as well....he was strong as an ox!

Tyson could have trained with Jesus for all I care he still would have had troubles with a fighter like Buster Douglas....he had trouble with Tony Tucker!!! He'd also always have trouble with Holyfield....Evander's style was just too tough for Mike to adapt to.
