What Jones last fight told me, is that give Jones an ex welter who hasnt fought for 3 years was coming off a loss in that fight and hadnt won for Four years, then he will do Ok but still not great.

Trinidad wouldnt have been standing to the final bell with Calzaghe

    You reckon ?

You could be right but I duno . Wright didnt stop Tito and Joe hasnt been putting people over recently so Tito may have been able to last with him . Jones did a pretty clean job on Trinidad but I suspect Joes would be alot uglier and messy. As I say could be wrong but there you go.

tbh I don't think either of these guys are big punchers anymore, If I was betting I'd say its going to points. If there was to be a stoppage though I'd bet on Calzaghe, I just think Roy's afraid of being hit nowadays. Against Tito he looked over cagey, though saying that I still think Calzaghe on points

I'd say Jones may have a slight edge in power cuz he still hits correctly with the knuckle part of the glove even if he doesnt let them go that much . I havent seen Joe really sit down on his punches for a while. Even vs Manfreddo he relied on flurries.

Still if theres a stoppage it will be through workrate, pace and Joe not letting Roy breathe and feel his age.

Yeah Calzaghes hands are done, he hasn't punched well in years, but he still has enough power to gain respect off his opponents, Roy can bang but just doesn't really let the hands go any more, I guess both could surprise us, we'll have to wait and see

Joe isnt the most powerfull puncher, even his gym mate Locket said Pavlik hit a little harder but, if you are easy to hit or cant keep a pace then Joe Calzaghe is a nightmare opponent for you.

Joe does throw combinations that dont look damaging but he is acurate and if he can land on a few sweet spots a few times in quick succession then he is going to hurt them.

The Mitchell fight was a prime example.

Even in the Manfredo fight, ok some of the punches werent landing but Joe could have kept that up all night

I see the fight going the distance.

If Jones still has good speed and reflexes and buzzes Joe with some punches early, he has a good shot at making Joe weary about rushing in and out pointing him.

If he does not get Joe's respect early, Joe will outwork him all night and take the win.

The key for Jones is slowing the pace down. If he cannot slow Joe down, Joe walks away with this.

You know that aint gonna happen

Hopkins put Joe down whithin the first minute but couldnt do fuuck all!!!

Joe is coming toward the end of his career, at first I hated him because he beat Eubank and Reid, I loved them Two as boxers but he has got my respect and he should have earned everyone elses.

In my eyes this Jones fight is the same as the Hopkins fight, a full gone conclusion, Joe will win easy.

Yes Jones was a good fighter but that is in the past, Joe only wants him for his name value, infact Joe laughed off an offer from Jones a while back because Jones wasnt on the map any more but 1 win over an old retired welter and Jones has got his fans in a lather once again

    It dont take much really

I really wish these two fought when Jones was in his prime...Roy would have exposed Joe for the over hyped fighter he is. Obviously Jones is now well past his prime...and he certainly could lose this fight. BUT...Joe's performance against Hopkins hardly inspires confidence. I personally had Hopkins at the VERY LEAST fighting Joe to a draw in their fight. Hopkins was past his prime as well, was hardly active in that fight, and pretty much through only one punch (the straight right). Yet he landed the more meaningful punches. Of course Joe threw a ton of pitter patter punches...most of which didn't land or cause damage. What does this all mean to me....that Jones vs. Calzaghe is a toss up fight. Even now...Jones is the better athlete. But i guess you can say that Joe is the mentally more confident fighter in recent years. If Roy can show up sharp and active...he can win.
