One thing I've realized is that other boxers usually have no more idea than the average fan does about who is actually going to win.

Winkie Wright, Bernard Hopkins, Glen Johnson, Jeff Lacy and Lennox Lewis all picked Jones to win.

Also, I was looking forward to someone interviewing Kessler or Bernard after the fight and asking them what they thought of the fight.

I think recently that people like to pick the long shot because it makes them look better if they're right. About half way though the secons round when Roy was showboating I'm sure many of them felt vindicated.

It was quite interesting for the first 5 rounds, as a joe fan I was genuinely nervous, but from the 6th it became obvious that Roy really didn't have enough left, and that Joe was supremely confident - even though he looked a bit daft with that red nose

Don't think it would have mattered but not having a quality professional cutman in corner was just horrible.

In between 8-9 Roy was all focused on that cut "Dont hit hard,dont hit hard.....are we closed....are we closed.....(blood streaming down and they were doing nothing).....you can't stop the bleeding??"

Hey on paper it was all Joe going into this fight, Jones brings a certain dynamic to a fight even at an advanced age.. I'm a fan of the Jones 1st and foremost, so I dig and analyze and look at things that may favor Roy based on the clash in styles... Roy thru away the fight in the 1st round, Joe was visibly hurt and shaken from the knockdown, it wasnt a flash shot.. Roy dosent have the killer instinct anymore to end a fight, he could have easily stopped Joe but I think he was scared to over commit or was confident that he would have his way with Joe the rest of the fight

It was a rubbish fight JT IMO, im not really giving Joe Calzaghe much credit for this win at all. It was like watching Muhammad Ali vs Larry Holmes, it was a sad fight indeed.

Roy Jones stunned Joe Calzaghe a few times but never followed it up, you shouldn't be in boxing if you haven't got the killer insinct, which RJJ clearly hasn't got anymore.

And Joe Calzaghe's constant clowning was pissing me off aswell, RJJ looked worse in this fight than he did even in the 3rd Antonio Tarver.

He couldn't even avoid any punches or block any, one of the saddest fights i've ever seen being a big RJJ fan. It was like watching Pernell Whitaker's last fight just sad.

Did you call it rubbish before it took place ICB ,just asking?The writing was on the wall.I think Roy was seeing things but his reflexes were dimmed.He said as much in between one of the rounds.I think Roy's instinct were there but reflex was not.

Its hard as shite watching an all time fav getting bested.You can almost live vicariously through fighters as a big fan and when they fall,it effects ya.Ive said before,when Holyfield was flattened face first in the 3rd Bowe fight....after having Bowe stunned badly and not being able to pull the trigger for finish....man I stopped following the sport for a good 7-9 months.This may sound twisted but I gained a new measure of repect for Roy last night.Jones did not choose to lose,Calzaghe Took it.

Yes actually i did Spicoli and i said countless times i was only rooting for RJJ, because he was one of my favorite fighters. RJJ didn't come to win at all. Heres quote by me before the fight.

"I think Joe Calzaghe has a very good chance of winning, im only going with RJJ because he is one of my favorite fighters. And he was one of my idols when i used to watch him as a young kid."

Sorry bud but this was nothing like in any way ALI vs HOLMES ... ANY WAY AT ALL THAT IS...

Not as bad as Ali vs Holmes but it was for certain similar but in different ways. RJJ got embarrassed and was cut things that have never happened to him before.

He had no killer instinct and just took punches off Calzaghe, without rarely throwing back. A very sad fight indeed.

Roy did what he could Ice, it was from from Ali/Holmes.. Roy couldnt pull the trigger, thats the bottom line he was game throughout the whole fight and never thought about quitting or survival mode, he fought with what he had left.. I am proud that it didnt end on the stool

He came to win ICB,he fought as well as he could at this point to win....but he could not.But I understand where your coming from bud .

JT i was worried before the fight simply because when i was watching the 24/7 show. RJJ looked too calm and he didn't look like he had any fire in his belly.

He didn't give it his all JT the whole thing just felt like a farce to me, RJJ wasn't even trying after about the 3rd round. And Joe Calzaghe was just clowning every second that it felt like i was watching a circus.

It was actually embarrassing to watch especially since i had my friends and my girl over. It certainly was in no way shape or form a championship fight, i see no desire or ETC in RJJ at all.

And Joe Calzaghe just done anything he wanted a got away with it, i was screaming at the screen just hit him RJJ Joe Calzaghe's hands are down to his waist and he is 2 inches away from you. What the hell are you doing ?

And the ref never even looked at the cut which was horrendous, the ref was just a disgrace and the fight felt like some freak exhibition fight.

I actually regret watching the fight now, rarely have i actually stopped watching a fight properly until its finished. Especially since i normally enjoy the sweet science, which is why im a fan of fighters like Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I felt us the fans JT who rooted for RJJ, and just the fans in general got cheated badly IMO.

I don't know if any of you went to the philly casino last night but my god what an amteur fight crowd that was. I mean they pretty much thought the fight was over when Calzaghe went down in the first,people actually walked away thinking it was over.I just kept saying to my self did these people watch the last Calzaghe fight. I guess not. I was more focused on my asshole lush of a friend yelling McCain every 5 mins, grabbing people's asses and waiting for someone to lay him out rather than Calzaghe doing it. IMO to me I thought Joe took it easy on Roy in the championship rounds it looked he could have knocked him out but was more intent on showboating and slapping the hell out of him instead. Now Joe has to be the number 1 p4p fighter on my list. He has beaten everyone he wanted to fight,still undefeated and their is nothing more to accomplish. To me he is #1 and he sure fought like that last night.

The thing with Joe is, the bigger the threat the more workman like he is.

Roy Jones fans, dont take offence but we can agree that Roy at 39 xant be the man that made his name anymore and Joe fought acordingly, he didnt feel a threat from Roy so fought like a sloppy idiot at times but still he piissed all over him.

Joe didnt showboat at all with Kessler because he knew he was fighting a dangerous classy young champ, with Jones he knew he was just fighting a name and I do belive he would slap the shiit out of Dawson.

Joe went down from a shot but it was an akward one as the replay showed, he took a few clean big shots after that and walked through em.

If Joe wants to carry on and fight Dawson just to prove a point, do it soon and then retire, dont sit around dithering about it.

Also the reason the otehr fighters like Hopkins, Lacy and Lewis were saying Jones would win is because deep down they know Joe is squickly gaining respect and going up in estimation and has that unbeaten record and they are green with envy.

Kellerman saying that Joe is vying with Lewis for the best british or european fighter or whatever the crap he came out with, Joe has surpassed Lewis, he hasnt been sparked by nobodys and beat everyone in a long career.

I do think that Joe would have outlasted Roy when he was still good, nothing says otherwise.

I think the shot against Kabary Salem was a huge shot, he took that right on the button and went down pretty heavy. And he was for certain shook up from that shot for atleast 30 seconds.

Against RJJ he was just caught cold IMO similar to the Bernard Hopkins knockdown. And it wasn't even a proper punch was it ? from the replay it looked like a wrist shot.
