Going into the Ruiz fight he was coming off two losses to Lewis and no longer World heavyweight champ.
Huge difference.
I don't see how 7 months makes a huge difference, which is basically what it was. Quite a few people thought Evander Holyfield beat Lennox Lewis in there 2nd fight, so he was coming off a good performance.
You could also say Evander Holyfield looked shot in the 1st Lennox Lewis fight, he couldn't get any punches off just like in the 1st Michael Moorer fight.
Look, even if you think 7 months doesn't make a difference (which it clearly does, especially to aging fighters seemingly past their pomp), you asked why Ruiz doesn't get the credit Lewis did.
Evander was a LOSING fighter going into the Ruiz fight. A LOSS makes a huge difference to the way a fighter is perceived. Holyfield was no longer THE MAN. Lewis was. Ruiz beat a FORMER champion coming off two LOSSES.
agreed
With that stupid logic you could entertain danny williams and kevin mcbride beating tyson as just as big accomplishments as what holyfield and douglas did to him!!
one dangerous horrible bloke
