Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has sparked outrage after describing gay couples as "worse than animals".
Pacquiao, 37, is closing in on the end of his in-ring career, having been an eight-time world champion.
He is currently in the process of re-inventing himself in his homeland as he moves into politics, running for a senate seat in the country's May elections. When asked about his views on gay marriage, outlawed in the Philippines, he offered his shocking views.
"It's common sense. Do you see animals that go male to male or female to female? So the animals are even better," Pacquiao told local broadcaster TV5 in an interview aired this week.
"Because they know how to distinguish from male to male or female to female. Right? Now if we allow male to male or female to female, then that makes us worse than animals."

Animals also don't worship things in the sky, I think that's a real equalizer myself. What can you say though? He's obviously dense, received very little education of any kind, and those views aren't even considered outlandish in the political arena for some of the first world. I'm sure he'd damage his reputation if he didn't say something ridiculous when asked about it.

Its interesting how social media seems to have become populated by people who actively troll it with a view to taking offence at something. Many people also deem themselves to somehow be entitled to take offence on behalf of others.

People become emotional narcissists, with a very simplified and immature outlook, roundly condemning people's right to free speech and even making personal attacks and death threats.

Ironic that the tool that was supposed to open up the world of human knowledge and democratise free speech has ended up being something that suppresses it, with the loud minority having a disproportionate amount of social power.

Personally, I don't really care what Manny Pacquiaio thinks about gay people. His opinion isn't that important to me, but it's quite laughable that this becomes a news story. It is on the front page of my BBC News feed. Madness.

Just as interesting is the idea that to comment or disagree with any view not seen as 'politicaly correct' is automatically assumed to correspond with jumping into the river of Kool Aid. It's dressed up as discourse, but it's not even on the level of a conversation between toddlers. Even, text, Wtf is that about? The internet is supposed to represent the future, and it's basically a bunch of leaflets and note pads not even aspiring to replace something as old as a telephone conversation.

Bless him, he is so cute in his infinite wisdom. I just find it funny and interesting when people express unusual points of view. Even if I was gay, I would probably just laugh. Everyone is so afraid of upsetting everyone these days and I kind of respect people who refuse to kneel at the altar of political correctness. It shows a feisty irreverence and it livens things up. I don't agree with him at all, but that isn't the point.

Does the bible explicitly say homosexuality is an abomination or punishable by death anywhere but that book of Levitcus? How about all the other stupid things that book says the same about, why just ignore those?
