His promoter simply thinks that Peter will be an easy defense and he'll match Hopkins MW defense record giving him bragging rights in a sence. But in reality it will do nothing in a true boxing fans eyes that he defended the WBO title more then Hopkins has defended his titles. Poor Joe is going backwards and losing more respect each day. I guess I have more confidence in Peters ability then most here and think the fight will go the distance further hurting Joes reputation. Joe has plenty of KO's but he's not a great puncher, he hit Lacy over a thousand times and couldn't KO him.

I'm rooting for the huge underdog here, I hope like hell Manfredo knocks him off his throne. He wants to be known In the states but he makes a barely rated fighter travel over there to fight him. Manfredo has something that Calzaghe lacks and thats courage and the willingness to fight anyone anywhere. Look at these ratings, Peter is not rated in the top 10 of any sanctioning body and not even the top 15 of the WBO or WBA.

I agree with you stebs. As much as we can criticise Calzaghe for taking this fight I do think Manfredo is due a whole lot of credit for being willing to go over Wales to fight the 'champion' in his own back yard.

When you consider that he has been handpicked as some kind of sacrifical whipping boy for Joe to make a statement against to impress the American fightfans you can't help but root for the kid.

As a proud Brit I really don't know who I will be rooting for once they step in the ring but right now I'd like to see Peter kick his ass.

I'm not sure who you are talking about here. I mean Calzaghes last two opponents Lacy and Bika both had really solid chins!

Lacy was exposed in terms of his boxing skills, but he certainly demonstrated his heart, courage, determination and ability to take a punch extremely well.

As much as Lacy as people's opinions of Jeff dropped regarding his overall talent I think to most real fight fans his reputation as a fighter who gives 100% was enhanced.

This has indeed dropped Joe down a notch...something that no hater has been able to do in over 4 years.

This makes no sense. The money & prestige lies at Kess's feet.

    Still a fan...but totally disgusted.
Completely and utterly sums the situation up for me. Wacko, Joe you mug!

Yeah I think Bika's chin hurt Joe's hand more than vice versa.

Fwank is a safety first, payday promoter. Something any good promoter should be doing. He's only intrested in lining his pockets. Not good for us, but you can't say he isn't stupid. At least GBP is intrested in the now rather than the future.
Warren ain't stupid, but Calzcrappy is for letting this bullshit happen
I'm in agreement with you VD my old buddy.

I think Joe is most interested in big paydays with the least amount of risk and effort.

I think you can list Calzaghes boxing priorities like this.

    1) Money,
    2) Protecting that 0
3)Not have to get on a plane
4)Not to have my nose broken and good looks damaged.
Absolutely. Dead on correct Mr. Bilbo. CC

I love Calzaghe. I love Manfredo. I hate this fight. I give Pete all the credit for being willing to step in with one of the best PFP in his home territory, but I'd rather see him fight Green, Froch, or hell, Beyer to help get ready for a real title shot. He's just not ready yet.

As for Joe C., what a freaking pussy move. Fight Kessler, you bitch. I hope Peter beats your ass and ruins everything for you. You just lost so many points in my book. This is Mayweather move. Freaking Mayweather move!! If I rip on PBF for this kinda crap, I gotta give it to Joe, even though I love him. Like Michael Corleone said to Fredo, "You broke my heart."

Well you can look at it one way, but you can also look at it this way. Joe is giving an up and comer his chance to ko the champ. This may be a shocker. What Manfredo lacks in skill, he more than makes up for in heart. I think Joe will win, but on the other hand i would not be shocked at an upset either. Anything can happen.

This is what I'm having a hard time understanding. Maybe some Calzaghe fans can answer it for me. They say the Manfredo fight is just an exposure fight for Joe. That it will lead to a big money show down against Jermain Taylor. Well isn't 3.4 million big money? It's probabley what he'll get if he did fight Taylor. I doubt he'll get much more.

It's not a "Mayweather move" He fought his mandatories!!!

    And Baldomir was a champion!

    Manfredo is Bruseles level.

But Bika was that way too boo.

But Calzaghe has one megafight and the rest easy fights.

Makes me sad to be a boxing fan of this guy

He could have done so much for boxing after the Lacy win but now
