I don't even think there's a second worst commentator, no one's even close to the Atlas. Lennox and Max might be vying for a distant third.

Completely agree, Atlas will FOREVER be the WORST.
It's plainfull that I love ESPN:2 fights and I enjoy! them but the sheer thought of another season watching 'Teddys Tips' his pre-fight comments where he demonstrates what each fighter has to do and he tries to show of whatever hand speed he feels he has.... Is fucken HILARY-OUS!!!

I must admit as a purely armchair fan I quite like Teddy Atlas. He sets out a few pre fight pointers that you can then look for when watching the fight.

As a non boxer I find this quite helpful, seeing how a boxer such as Ibragimov crosses his legs when moving side to side, or how Joey Gilbert brings his right foot forward to throw a big right hand etc, or how you when fighting a southpaw a good boxer will lead them around the ring to their right to minimise their effectiveness.

Its those little details that I learnt from Atlas that help me appreciate the sport at a slightly deeper level.

Lampley, Merchant et al actually teach you nothing whatsoever about boxing, in fact Merchant probably de-educates a lot of potential students of the fight game :P

I kinda like Teddy Atlas to be honest . an overall fantastic announcer I think , I hardly ever disagree with what he is saying during a match, he is very accurate as to whats going on in there, and has a nice vocabulary. a way of getting his points across that’s easy for people to understand. if its a bullshit desison he will jump right on a muthing judge with camera rolling ask him what the fuck were you watching. . hehehe ... I like him !

I don't know, but I just don't have a problem with any commentators. And I really like Kellerman. Just me though.

When i listen to Atlas during the bigger fights and not so often,he's not too bad,he makes good points etc etc. When I listen to him during less well known matches/more often, for some reason(as Ouamfan once pointed out to me a while ago and with which I now agree),he is sooooooo annoying! He comes out with random things,he is soooo overhyped and uses the silliest of analogies!

Like I said though,he''s ok sometimes and I LOVE how after a Litzau fight,Litzau was comparing himself with SRL(I think it was aafter the Nalasco war),and Atlas was telling him to calm down in a really harsh tone,I think that humbled Litzau a little and it must have been embaressing!

Seriously? May be you are analysing the fight alot so don't really listen to the commentary?

I listen to commentary but the only time I could ever recall it getting me mad was for Taylor - Wright. But yeah...never had a problem with commentators. Still listen to it but never pay it to much mind. Lampley is awesome just because of how exciting he can make a fight. Bernstein is probably the best but he doesn't have the character of a Lampley, Merchant or Atlas so he gets the short end of the stick a lot. But let me tell you, Al Bernstein can tell a story like no one I have ever met. Really good guy.

You met Al Bernstein? Coool!! How was he? He is probably my favourite,he knows the game inside out and he makes great points which usually turn out to be true at some point during the fight.

I think atlas is ok on the espn boxing matches. He definitely helps out the boxing illiterate.

How about a "where did it all go wrong" award...to be presented in the ceremony by Mike Tyson of course.
    My nominations would be:
Juan Manuel Marquez - losing to Chris John and then two rather laborious wins in 2006.
Rudy Markussen - In line for a mandatory challenge against Calzaghe, then blows it in an 8 rounder against some unheralded Russian.
Ike Quartey - The year that his comeback hit the rails in a big way. An unlucky loss against Vernon Forrest, but a generous Winky Wright lets him go the 12.
Zab Judah - Two defeats on the bounce in title bouts, and nothing much heard from him in recent months.

    Any other nominees?
