Yup, after the dizzy heights of retreading the steps of Joe Calzaghe against Lacy, a fight for the WBC strap sure is a step back. Who else is there?

Taylor's not got the size to go light heavy, and I think he'd fancy Kessler even less than Froch. It's going to take a while before the SMW's get past the shadow of Joe.

Fraud won a vacant title by beating a fringe contender. He never beat an actual champion for it. Not exactly a step forward. Good to see you impress easily.

Who said anything about Taylor fighting at Light Heavyweight? As for Kessler? Come on now. He's seems contempt with fighting the same bums he's been facing.

Great fighter, tough as nails, skilled, fast, more importantly determined, what he walked through against Kessler was absolutely amazing. IMO to do it how he did in that fight was way more impressive than what Margarito did to Cotto because Marg has power, while Calzaghe doesn't really, and he knows that, but he utterly overwhelms almost everyone he fights.

One of my favourite fighters over the years. He's the complete package.

Its great that he is able to step down without going on too long, but he is still so extremely good that part of me wants to see more. Everything comes to an end sometime, I guess.

Great fighter underrrated by a lot of people. I think in 10 years time people will really appreciate how good he was. He did have flaws, i.e he slapped at times and his punch resistance lessened later in his career, but looking at the whole package and the skills and heart he possesed he will go down as a Great!

Along with Lennox Lewis the greatest British fighter of all time.

He beat the best who were willing to face him and was avoided by a few.

To remain undefeated for so long is an acheavement in its self but to do it at the top level and not slip up once ia amazing.

IMO the only fight he came close to loseing is against Reid.

Great boxer who goes out on top of the world.

If he sticks to his word, good luck to him.

He wont though. Calzaghe is way too predictable. He'll be back if a big money fight is on the table.

Saw this on the news at ten on BBC last night. Nice little five minute slot for himself.

I believe this. And I actually felt a sense of loss as a boxing fan.

I still think he'll come back when the £££££££££s offers start coming in.

This was probably the reason why he called it. The BIG offers simply weren't coming. I think Dawson and Hop inquired about the possibility but no numbers big enough to risk his legacy were mentioned.

IF one of the guys can separate himself from the bunch and make a big offer then I think it's possible we'll see him again.

I can imagine that too. Dawson was touted as a possible opponent but is tied up with Tarver again. If Dawson can shine against Tarver then he will probably call out Joe again. I like to think Joe means it though, too many fighters go on too long.

Dawson isn't even a big name in the states. His last fight with Tarver sold UNDER 1000 tickets.
