Wilder is in excellent condition with very little body fat, did anyone else notice the way the puffiness under his eye was bouncing up and down. My two grandsons, they are 7 and 11, enjoyed watching that as much as the actual fight. Monsters is what they are with them trying to rap to the bounce.

It must be good to see general fans being able to watch heavyweight champions on mainstream TV. They are next generation who will say Wilder was the greatest!

Duhaupas was tough and showed a lot of heart. Wilder was wild but put some hurtful shots together.

    This was wilder's Corrie Sanders.
WOW! REALLY??! Corrie Sanders RIP would have killed Wilder!
LOL! Sanders probably defeats Duaupas for sure. Not comparing their styles, rather the level of comp that Wladmir fought at this stage of Wilder's career is no different. Did you back then think..Sanders was a match for Wlad? Or hand picked to get rounds in?

Interesting perspective. I didn't see bad footwork, but... I questioned why his stance was so friggin wide.
I wonder does Breland think that is a good thing?

In fact it was his feet IMO that put him out of harms way- he moved constantly -backing for the 1st 4 rounds or so. Some could call it (running) to which he was so effective at- it made Duahapas follow him as opposed to cutting the ring off.

Wilder chose to stop running/moving mid rounds and fought inside to my surprise- then last 3 or so rounds started to back up duhaupas.

I disagree. Wilder didn't maximize. If so he would have depended on one or two things with no adjustment.

He adjusted later rounds and found that uppercut. He landed punches with both hands an landed every where.
Deontay at worst proved he is still a work in Progress.
He found the uppercut on a Stiverne who literally moved his head what, 4 or 5 times tops? Its always been a staple and used as finisher but all have fallen prior. I was most impressed that he fought and maintained beyond an essentially closed left eye, while going into it. I like the explosiveness...but I do believe we've seen the best of Wilder going forward and he'll have to cope.
Agreed given the level of opponent. Povetkin decapitates him, Wlad hospitalizes him.
Using the (level) of opponents is where I think most fans get wrong. In theory I can't disagree with you at all.
    However...
I've said this about quite a few great fighters that I will ascribe to Wilder:

A Wilder defeating Klitschko wont be about him being more skilled. We can rate, grade & compare skill, but we can't do that for courage, determination and taking a good punch. There is no barometer or measuring stick.

With that said- skilled fighters wont be Wilder's nemesis. #1 there just aren't many out there- see any Wlad thread- and that is the general consensus- at least here, right?

Let's say most are right here- Wilder wont become anymore skilled--BUT he can become more experienced. Then that would suggest to me- he can gain a knowledge of how to conserve energy. When he may need to hold- and do it unlike Lennox or Wlad- with outright clinching, but clinching like he did here- with one hand, while using the other to hit.

And not to panic of/when he bleads or swells up. These assets can be used to beat a much more skilled fighter who cant endure punishment, or freaks out when they bleed or swells.

Man- I am so excited for the HW division today. Wlad, Fury & Wilder 3 big guys with punches- all heading on a collision course.

Wilder embarrasses himself jumping around and becoming one hundred percent unhinged after winning what was a showcase to begin with. Act like you've been there and own the property champ. I think he is going to implode in a cloud of false confidence, wind up wide hooks and susceptibility to right hands backing straight. Some of his off balance frantic-antic bombs do as much to leave him vulnerable as they do to benefit him.

I'm happy to say I like Deonatay and hope he beats the Cato out of both Wlad and Putin.

Okay, so he's not Vince Lombardi who stated- when U cross the goal line- act like you've been there b4.

Is he supposed to be quiet and humble to the point of punkifiedness like Joe Louis? As far as false confidence: once again the post fight- he acknowledged he isn't the greatest. He didn't do like most fighters when asked: when will you fight to unify the titles- "As long as the money is right we can do it"
Or when fighters say ":whatever my promoter wants" (think Pacman) The fact that he stated 2016 for Wlad & a mandatory 1st- seems to suggest- he knows that his win last night didn't make him the man to fight Wlad next outing

I agree totally that Wilder was backing straight. Breland needs to correct it- Wlad I'm sure would exploit it. And some of his misses (may) have something to do with his opponent getting underneath his shots.
And when he missed, I saw Deontay deliver in the same fashion when he landed. Over 50% land- and they were pretty accurate.

I also agree with you [to a point]: Some of his off balance frantic-antic bombs do as much to leave him vulnerable as they do to benefit him

Flip the script -if he can correct that- wouldn't that possibly make him a safety first fighter? Then we can say "Oh Wilder doesn't want to take chances. he runs and doesn't throw with bad intentions.

IMO Bombs away- means exactly that. Landing 50% of his punches seem to suggest he was quite accurate. He didn't miss a lot of shots IMO due to wild swinging. Duhaupas I think escaped some of those shots. That's what made Wilder's shot look (wild) at times.

I thought he looked poor in the respect he was so easy to hit and mark up for a frenchman throwing barely any punches. Wilders head got rocked by by simple jabs a few times. You normally see that from a tired fighter not the heavyweight champ in the first few rounds. I actually think he looked out of ideas when his punches didnt knock Johan over.

He didn't give himself an uppercut. That's a plus. Right?

No only the elite do that, check Klitschkos last fight

It sounds very generous, but aidding and abetting an opponent sounds illegal. Know what I mean? Of course, I could be wrong if all the elite fighters are doing it.

Thing is, Wilders recent journeyman opponents dont need any extra help to make him look rubbish.
