In action from the undercard, John Murray proved that he is a real prospect in demolishing Dean Hickman to claim the English lightweight title with a fifth round KO, and in what was due to be a keep-busy fight for Super-bantamweight British title holder Esham Pickering, he got comprehensively outworked, outpunched and nearly got knocked out in the seventh round of eight against game journeyman Sean Hughes, who celebrated hugely, and must have pushed himself into some sort of title contention.

Afterwards, Johnny Nelson called on Pickering to retire.

Nice work superheavy....home late for this one so you and the boys made this an informative and entertaining read, wish Reid could have turned back the clock and was hoping for such too...but not to be, and well done to Froch for delivering a win in what was a potential banana skin for himself, but love or hate Froch, the guy has come thru another test in his march towards maybe greater things....

Crap ain't it lol, but bcollins maybe we should pressure our leaders into treating us as at saddo's as a new religion, there by giving strength to our claims for National Holidays whenever we get a fight show that needs our "Prayer time and devotion"...... I cant get shot for that can I lol...

I agree that this was the fight that'll push Froch towards World glory, and although the pundits on the show were talking a lot about maybe going for an European title. I'm still sure that Calzaghe's gonna vacate and throw the SMW's into chaos...and that'll give Froch the shot he wanted and test him on a world level. I'm with superheavy re Joe C vacating very soon, so Froch could be finding himself in the right place at the right time this near future as Joe vacating will leave all kind of options opening up for him with various belts and match ups becoming available, and good luck to him it ain't luck, he is fighting himself into these positions on merit to, he is starting to impress me now, though I'm still a long way off being converted, but hats off to him for tonight....

Reid completed the fifth round, but pulled out of the fight whilst on his stool during the break. At the start Reid was asking his trainer for one more round, but got talked around by his trainer and withdrew from the bout.

Since then Reid has announced his (second) retirement from the sport of boxing, but has everything to be proud of looking back through his career. He was the British SMW that did get the chance to fight the best, usually in their back gardens, and was always game. He suffered plenty of defeats and setbacks, but would put most fighters through a tough fight to claim the win. However, after his performance tonight it's probably fair to say that he couldn't cut it at a level above the British title at this stage in his career, but probably faced one of the strongest British titlists who still held the belt ever. Froch probably should have moved on a year or two ago, and is now probably at a world level, and was too quick and strong tonight.

Tonight, Reid was focussed, on his game and really wanted to claim that British title. He was working well and looked to be landing some fairly solid shots on Froch who wasn't really fazed by it. It was basically that Froch just showed how power and accuracy can do more than sheer effort and workrate can do when it comes to boxing, and I was impressed with how he was able to put Reid down three times when he wasn't really on the front foot in the fights.
