Congrats to Santa Cruz. Compliment to what we still call "championships"
It wouldn't be boxing without at least one questionable scorecard per card.
Can't argue with that, especially in the USA.
I will say there was so much action in every round of this fight, I can understand how it could happen.

Rigo is a ghost. He should be out there tooting his own horn, instead of waiting for everyone to beat down his door.
If he fought like Santa Cruz he would be in every conversation about potential fights.
It's not really his fault! Right? If boxing fans just knew what the fuck they should be watching instead of what they enjoy watching, Rigo would be a supernova nobody could look away from.
Rigo fights like a robot, a fast robot.

Didn't Arum dump him? You just can't make any money with a fighting robot!

Good fight but not a classic as they were mauling a lot. I thought after the first round we were going to see a classic Barrera v Morales 1 but they could not keep it up.
Truthfully, I think Mares couldn't keep up the pace. He started throwing flurries and then holding and hitting over and over.
Santa Cruz did some holding and hitting in the late rounds too but it wasn't unexpected.
Overall an excellent fight, with Santa Cruz possibly becoming a big star.
If they fought again it would be a completely different fight. There is no way Mares would try to outwork Santa Cruz again. Who would win, amigo?

He's on the verge of being annoying, lol.
The way he keeps going on about the little tick Leo has with his right hand makes me think he's never seen Santa Cruz fight before.
Why does Cruz do that? I thought he hurt his hand.

Google Tourette syndrome. It looks like a mild case or he may take meds to control it.
If you watch his fights on YouTube you'll see it in every fight.
And I should say if it is Tourette's syndrome.

Cruz would win again, no need for a rematch.

It was a good fight. Cruz was a clear winner. I know that was at featherweight but Scott Quigg would batter Cruz let alone Rigo.

Frampton beats them all, except Rigo.

Rigo is a ghost. He should be out there tooting his own horn, instead of waiting for everyone to beat down his door.

I agree with this part. He seems to price and demand himself out of some possible matchups by wanting things like rehydration clauses. I agree with him but they system wont change for him at this juncture and he had to know that pros fight a division or 2 south of their fight night weight.

If he fought like Santa Cruz he would be in every conversation about potential fights.

But he does not fight that way. Why does Floyd make 50 million fighting a janitor out of a safety first style and yet Rigo cant buy a fight out of a vert similar style and in fact he's a more complete fighter then Floyd is? Why is he penalized for making people look pedestrian and Floyd is rewarded for it?

It's not really his fault! Right? If boxing fans just knew what the fuck they should be watching instead of what they enjoy watching, Rigo would be a supernova nobody could look away from.

Sarcasm aside that's true. Pretty soon the togas will come out and lions will be introduced. And again why do people enjoy watching Floyd. The idiocy of drive through fast food instant gratification fans should not be a gauge for people prowess in the ring. Thats a matter of their own stupidity. Its not his fault the ppv buying masses are as dumb as a sack of hammers. Why should he dumb it down for them?

Rigo fights like a robot, a fast robot.

All I can say to that is that you and I see boxing quite differently. The guy is the best inside fighter on the planet and his skill set has no equal in the sport. If he fought like a robot he'd be easy to beat. The robots are the one dimensional fighters that rinse and repeat which he easily defeats most of the time.

    He's dull, dude!

If only he spoke English eh, came from a different country and talked smack.

    Rigo is a dull dude!

    You already said that.

His dullness outshines his robotic speed!

I have no response to this except if only it was a battle of personalities, he would not make the top 25.
Didn't Arum dump him? You just can't make any money with a fighting robot!

Arum fucked him over is what he did just like he did Floyd and Oscar and he essentially sat out his contract and thanks to that scum bag we will never get a Loma fight.
The trouble with Rigo is that he's to good for his own good and does not come from the right country.

I thought that Cruz deserved the win and my scorecard was 7-5 for Cruz but I could see a draw because I gave the last round to Cruz which could have gone to mares. It's a fight to where cruz definitely did better but round by round, it was a close fight IMO.

Santa Cruz really impressed me. It's like they switched roles. Credit to Mares who fought his heart out but he wasn't able to deal with what Santa Cruz brought to the table. He surprised Mares and many observers with his reinvention.

I agree, they both deserve credit for making a great fight! I expected one of them to break down and eventually get run over but Mares just slowed a little allowing Santa Cruz to do his thing.
With all the punches thrown in the fight it's hard to believe one of them didn't visit the canvas.
I love one punch KOs and slugfests as much as the next guy. However if you want sustained action and excitement in every round of a fight, find a couple of determined and in shape Mexican fighters!
