I hate absinthe!


I went to France for a month last spring and one of the first things I did was buy two bottles of absinthe. I was intrigued by what it's "effects" were supposed to be, but was disappointed after trying it. First of all, it tastes like BLACK LICORICE. That may be good news for some, but I hate black licorice! Your supposed to pour it over sugar, but I already found the liquor too sweet (I dont like sweet liquor). Anyways, I was determined to get drunk/high/whatever off of it.

First night I tried it was after a great dinner where I probably had about 5-6 glasses of wine at. Back at the hotel I poured a few shots worth of absinthe into a glass, gradually drank it, then poured a few more, etc. I didn't hallucinate but I got incredibly drunk and incredibly sick off of it, and I rarely get sick off of any kind of alcohol even after drinking very large amounts.

Anyways, I tried it a few more times and it never got me more than "drunk". The amount of thujone (not sure if thats the spelling) in it which is one of the active chemicals that are supposed to make you feel other effects is regulated and In my experience I was always flat out wasted before I consumed enough to experience anything else. I didn't like the stuff at all and don't really recommend it...it's more the "aura" surrounding it but the actual drink does NOT live up to the hype. It will get you drunk as hell if that's what your after. But in my case it also would get me sick everytime.

That is where you went wrong, as in Britain, a barperson is only allowed to serve you two shots of the stuff in an evening, so if you want more than that, you have to find two different bars. And Absinthe is bad shit, it tastes horrible and fucks you up. Which if getting wasted is the only target, it will get you there quickest.

And Greg, I finally found myself a bottle of tequila. It doesn't look very good, but I will try. It is Suazo Blanco, which i guess will end up with a mixer

The Laphroaig 15 year...that is going to be so awesome you lucky lucky man....and in this exchange all i get are some ghetto margheritas. Next time I'll get some of the proper aged sippin tequila. GL my man, it should be gorgeous.! And if you never talk to me again, I'll know what you think of it

Are you sure that stuff was real absinthe and not just the legal alternative? I heard somewhere (I'm far from an expert) that the true formula for absinthe has been lost to history and what they're selling now is just an alcohol concoction that may or may not taste anything like the real deal of centuries past. I read that our best hope was some guy trying to reverse engineer some old bottles.

Apparently, the genuine article absinthe is only available in some deep parts of countryside between France and Belgium, and that it isn't actually sold openly, so it's the kind of thing you can only buy from a dodgy Belgian in a French pub, or something along those lines. The legal version of absinthe, which at 70% alcohol, is apparently around 15-20% less in volume of alcohol than the genuine article is available in bars in Britain certainly, and I have tried some in a bar in New Zealand, though whether it is available in Australia I'm not sure. I'm sure your friendly neighbourhood off-licence will be able to help you there. As long as you are of legal drinking age and have a wallet full of money.

I think I am going to take yagermyster (spelled wrong) shots tonight. The last time I took Yager shots I was in a bar talking to females, I then woke up the next morning in my bed next too my wife, I had no idea how I got home or what happened, it's the only time I blacked out, I want too do it again but this time I will stay home baby. Have you guy's ever blacked out.

I have blacked out many, many nights.... i usually go to parties as F. Scott Fitzgerald...however I have to drink much before the party so i don't seem like a lush. LOL
