They have recently rehung the Tate Britain and completely restored the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam so I would like to visit them both this year but finances are alas preventing me from doing so. Was most gutted though to miss Hockney in London and Cologne. Still any excuse for a bit of Hockney Lancashires gift to L.A. Funny how it often takes somebody from a long way away to see things for what they really are




The work above is all about perspective as his much of his output. He is constantly examining the lie that a photograph is capturing what we see with our eyes.

I had a poster of this which after becoming worn and creased I pasted onto the inside lid of an old wooden chest as a child. It used to mesmerise me. I think originally because I could not fathom how it had been painted by the same man or painted this

The new large scale works sketched on an ipad seem to be returning him to his examination of perspective. A theme which from the flat pools of L.A to the tree lined corridors of the Britsh Moors runs throughout his work
