I might put mike in the top ten think i missed judge him I've been doing alot of reading on all the champs there has been starting John L Sullivan to now and all i have to say Tyson is top 10 but not top 5 that is my conclusion after hearing everbody talk so much about the subject than you for having interest in my post the 5 people i have over him are as the following.

    1.Ali
    2.Larry
    3.Louis
    4.Liston
    5.Forman

I know people might say why i have Larry so high i Personal think the only boxer better then him was Ali but that is my opinion and i stick to it. And yes i know mike beat Larry but i think Larry was a better champion then mike was and that he was 38 when he lost to him and i dont care if was knocked out or not he as 38 and past his prime i dont count his fights after he lost to spinks not the same fighter and that is what i think and thank everyone for there thoughts.

But why would they be more scared of Tyson than other Heavyweights in history before or since - if he was not that 'Great' His ear biting and all that came long after, so they were afraid of what he did in the ring - so he must've been quite good to put that much fear into all his opponents musn't he

At one point in time, everyone - man, woman, child - knew who mike tyson was. That and that alone earns him my respect.

Yeah then when they say they don't know show them a picture and ask who they'd rather meet in a dark alley.....

Actually don't do that because im sure people would still rather run into a 6'8 boxer with kick boxing experience then even a "washed up" tyson. (I'm one of those people.

And another thing i needed to clarify about a previous post when some one asked me if i'd rather watch a classic bout or a strategic chess match that wasn't necessarily boring but wasn't great.I'd rather watch a classic bout but Tyson's fights weren't classic battles between two people. Tyson's fights were speed trials to see how fast he could knock somebody out.

Yes, yes, yes - we can dissect Tyson's style, punching power, mentality, opposition and legacy.

BUt the real reason 'why people hold him so high' is that for a period of time, he was as famous and well known as Muhammad Ali was (at a time when boxing was becoming a minority sport). He transcended the sport, rightly or wrongly.

For a brief period of time, Tyson bestrode boxing like a collossus, to the same extent as Sullivan, Louis and Ali before his. When all is said and done, he was as electrifying a performer as ever stepped into a boxing ring.

well what i meant to say was "why isn't don king given all the credit" because prime mike didn't beat any A-rated fighters, and a convienently post prime mike lost soundedly to the two best heavys from his generation, and then lost to two nobodys....So why is he rated so highly?

if we rated fighters based off what they could've accomplished given their physical skillset...why isn't judah, meldrick, hamed, raheem, byrd, ibeabuchi, all rated as high as tyson?
